I was "on the fence" for years, and then, I went to my PCP, and started a supervised weight loss diet, with phentermine pills. I started researching here, on OH, and found a TON of links.... but, this one was THE CLINCHER for me:

I will be 9 years out from my RNY in a little over 2 weeks. I had reached my goal by May of 2003, and by May of of 2004 ( a year later) I had re-gained 80 pounds. And, here I sit, nearly 7 years later with that 80 pound re-gain.
Good LUCK to you!!!!

Patti-
Unfortunately, with so few.... you are probably going to have to travel. Hey, I traveled from Alaska for my RNY nearly 9 years ago, even though there was a new surgeon up here doing them. I wanted more experience!!!!
Since there are so few in the united states to choose from...... Greenbaum would be your closest. I would post this on the DS board as well, just for the input & support. I think they say it better than me, traveling is such a small 'price' to pay for a MUCH BETTER life, and such an insigifigant amount of time, compared to your WHOLE life!!!!
Good Luck!!!!!
