ins revision question

I had a VSG 5 years ago and paid out of pocket. If I am having mechanical difficulties now and medical issues my gastro doc believes this should be covered by ins (such as switching to a DS to resolve these issues), and one WLSurgeon said the same....Does this make sense to any of you??????
Is it all in the way it is billed and what the problem/correction entails???
Any info would be appreciated, I do not want to pay out of pocket but need to get these issues fixed

The only people who can tell you what YOUR insurance will cover are the people who work for your insurance company. You'll need to call about your specific policy.

What issues are you having with your VSG, and how would switching to the DS help resolve them?

Thanks for replying   I am going in for endoscopy and just had upper GI, which looked good except for the shape of my stomach.. One issue seems to be that the food goes in(not large amounts but alot than 5 years ago, get full then hungry an hour or so later. Seems my stomach is shaped like an hourglass and may be causing this plus possible gastric bile ( not sure if that is correct term) have gastritis and Gerd where I have no reflux but without my Nexium ouch! Ins wants to take me off nexium due to cost but nothing else has worked. Anyway something has not been right for almost 2 years, did have a  hiatal hernia repaired last year again.
Just not sure but want to prepare myself if the DS is a solution. That scares me too but I cant go on like this doesnt sound as bad as others yet I dont want this to continue to get worse and if DS is the answer then I am hoping ins. will cover it. I am seeing Dr K soon, my GI doc thinks I need surgery but wants me to see a specialist. Dr. Jossart did my VSG and thinks I probably need surgery too but he is in SF and I am in LA so want a doc here. Anyway that is the short version!!

As much as I LOVE my DS, I don't really think you need one. Your BMI is 22, so you certainly don't need to lose weight. The issues you mention I don't think adding the 'switch' would help---sounds to me like you need your Sleeve re-done. Those hourglass-shaped Sleeves have been a real problem, and some DSers have them, too.

Dr. K is great---I'm sure he'll be able to help you!

No 22 BMI not sure where that came from! I do have about 30 pounds to go not alot on one hand but dont want it to keep going up either as before, some is me and some is mechanical..I am looking forward to my visit with Dr K to see about some type of solution...anyway thanks for the reply

you have a 2 part question not one, if you are having documented mechanical issues that can be demonstrated on testing (barium swallow, endo, CT and if your health is being threatened) then that is considered medically necessary to fix (this you would have to prove to the insurance co) insurance cos pay for medically necessary issues.

revision to DS is a very different question, that is not life threatening, this you would have to refer to your health insurance specific policy, not by what your dr says.

so your "issues" if demonstrated to be medically necessary should be fixed but not revised to DS, from what you have posted.
