Revision from RNY to DS - surgeons?

I've run into a snag with seeking my revision from RNY to DS. I have Aetna Open Access in Ohio and they have advised that Dr. Rabkin is not in-network so I would have to self-pay.

Anyone else have Aetna? If so, what surgeons are considered in-network? If the procedure is covered for in-network but there are no surgeons in-network, how can they just deny it?

Help!!

Traci-

I suggest you post this over on the DS forum, there is much more traffic over there.  I have read about the in-network and out-of network insurance.  I have seen SUCCESS at having a doc who was out-of network approved.... I personally do not remember who & how, but I KNOW that the DS forum will have an answer and some insurance advice for you on your journey!!!!

Hope that helps!!!

Hmm. I must follow you. I have Aetna Open HMO FEHBP, and wanting to go out of state to revise to a DS/BPD from RNY. Good luck!

Don't have Aetna but Blueshield of CA HMO. With my insurance since they didn't have someone in network who could perform it they had to find someone EXPERIENCED to do it.  They ended up choosing Dr Rabkin for me. My medical group tried to tell me that I had to self-pay too. I had to fight for it and go all the way to an Independent Medical Review, but since the surgery was medically necessary they had to pay for it. I said all of that to say this, APPEAL APPEAL APPEAL!!!!!

I'm glad that I at least have a Dr. in my network. I'm just waiting for my old doctor to give me a copy of my file and all my paperwork will be submitted to Aetna for pre-approval. I hope I don't have to appeal like you did!

Have you tried Dr. Ara Keshishian, www.dssurgery.com.  He and Rabkin are the best!

Actually, Husted is more experienced than Dr. K.
