Hi Guys,
I am almost 2 weeks post op and still super sore.  The morphine makes me sick and so does vicodin and percocet.  I am doing a LOT of walking and sitting up though. I rarely lay down, only to sleep. I know that there is a lot of cutting in the stomach during the surgery, thats why it hurts so bad.  I had one drain removed on yesterday and the other one comes out today.  Can anyone tell me when the 'soreness and pain' in your stomach stopped completely? Was it at 3 weeks out? A month?  THANKS!

Well, I had an open RNY 8 years back & I was still sore after I returned to work, 3 1/2 weeks later!!!

As for your pain meds making you sick, ask the doc for an anti-nausea pill.  That will help your healing, so you can relax after taking your pain medicine, and heal better.  It is stessful on your body after major surgery, but in my opinion, your body should relax!!!

Good luck at the doc's office & please keep us posted on what he says!!!!

Well revision surgery is something else from what I have read and heard. Seems to me you need something to help you with the sick feel of the pain killers. I would ask Dr. K's for something to help with that first. I wasn't really in a lot of pain at all after my RNY it was lap to begin so I don't know about what your going through. I am sure after about another week or so you should be turning around the corner to feeling better.

You may not want to hear it from me but after my Rny revision it was six weeks before my nausea and pain stopped. I ended up going for a walk with the people from my church and thought I was going to die. The next day I felt better than I had felt since surgery so I think that helped.

Thanks Guys. I Think I just gotta take it slow.  I am 2 weeks out today and I feel MUCH BETTER now that the two drains have been removed. I have to walk a lot during the day, and the pain meds help control it. Plus Im finding that sitting up for long periods of time makes me nauseous, so Im walking a little, sitting a little, and laying a little.  Im off work, so Ill take my time with recovery.
=) WOOHOO Ive been switched!!

Hey there friend!
Congrats on your DS Revision!!!!

I was a whimp until I got the feeding tubes out at about 6 weeks.  I jumped the gun with getting back into life though and wish I would have continued the baby steps for another couple of weeks.  Your tummy is probably restricting much nourishment so push the protein drinks.  I think the high protein is the key to keeping your hair, getting energy, and healing!

Take care and keep us posted!

hang in there, you've just had a HUGE surgery, it's going to take time.  I basically felt like crap for 6-7 weeks, at 8 weeks out a huge turnaround.  I really didn't have much pain after 2-3 weeks.  It was more feeling bad systemically, your body is going through so much between trying to recover from surgery in addition to not getting much nutrition.
Take care,
Debbie M.
