Revision Question

To get a revision does your current weight loss surgery have to be considered a failure? My surgeon said that my lap-band wouldn't be considered a failure until 2 years after my surgery. I'm in the process of a divorce and will be losing my insurance soon so really don't have the time to wait for it to be considered a failure to move onto a revision.

Talk to another surgeon. One that does more than bands (preferably one that does all 4 surgeries, if you really want an unbiased opinion).

The surgeon I had does the rny and sleeve also so I could go back to them but they push the band very hard so I'm looking for a new surgeon, but here in Iowa no one offers the DS, the closest is in Omaha which is 3 hrs away.

Since there are fewer DS surgeons, many of us traveled to our surgeon. I flew to India, so 3 hours sounds great, lol.

I'm very low income though so it might as well be India lol

I would call your insurance and ask them. They are the ones that make that decision. my lap band has failed. I am not able to get my band tightened any more because of pressure on the esophagus and heart burn. Now I am having pain around the stomach and band and they have no idea what to do with me.

I had lap band in January 2009 so I am not 2 years out. I am calling insurance company Monday

I had revision before the 2yrs due to multiple health problems they approved lapband to RNY with in a week after learning I had lymphedema. Get statements from your Dr. as to how the band has not worked for you maybe be you will be lucky too.

Tamera, I didn't have to redo the diet since we had documnetation of me working with the nutrtionist for 6mo. post band and seeing the Dr, monthly for fills. Aftera year the Dr, said I would have done better with the RNY so we persued that. It's the best thing for me I have lost 90ibs, and no longer have high blood pressure and my lymphedema is under control and my knees no longer hurt. I have gone from sz.26 down to 12/14. My only regret is I didn't get the RNY 2 yr.s ago. I have had very little problems and am able to eat near normal size portions and a wide variety of foods.  Good luc****ep us posted.

I'll call them tomorrow. I haven't gotten many fills for my band, maybe 3 total because anytime after they would fill me I would get horrible pains where my port was and they wouldn't go away for at least 2 weeks after the fill so I just stopped getting fills done. Hopefully my insurance company will be able to give me some answers, they approved my lap-band surgery very fast and do cover the revision i'd like to get.
