I hate to correct Debbie that the failure rate of the RNY for patients with a starting BMI of 50+ is actually even higher then 30% - a number of studies found failure rates of 35-50%. For someone with such a BMI and being a revision in addition to that, it is insane getting the RNY if there is any chance of getting a DS.
Have you actually applied for the DS and got denied? Have you exhaused your appeal possibilities? A llot of insurence companies will tell you that the don`t pay for the DS or the sleeve, but if you actually apply, the decision can and often will be different. And most insurence companies in the US can be forced to pay for the DS if you fight for your right and appeal. Do not take a no for an answer unless you`ve tried really everything. STarting the process again will be a pain in the ass, but it would be way worse if you fail agaiin with the RNY, and unfortunately there is a very high risk that you wont get the results you need if you go the RNY route.
