Yes, those are common symptoms after the DS due to the malabsorbtion. I don't know about bile salts, but I do know that doctors give Creon (enzymes) to help patients who are losing too much weight to stop and even put on some weight. You might want to read the DS forum for ideas on coping with those symptoms.

If you are willing, it would be interesting to know what kind of blood tests you get and what supplements you take.

Who was your doc? What do you remember about your stats? Common channel? Size or shape of stomach?

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

My surgeon was Dr. Martin Fischer. He moved from the area and has since passed away. What do you mean by "stats?"  I lost from 363lbs to 220lbs (my lowest). At the time my blood work came back normal. My blood pressure, blood sugar and choIesterol were all "normal". I don't remember anything else. I mean...after all...it's been 25 years...

If your surgeon operated in a group practice, search for them online and contact them.  They may still have your records or someone who's still in the practice may be able to tell you what the approximate specs of your surgery would have been 25 years ago.  Who was your surgeon?  Maybe someone here knows one of his contacts even though he passed away.

My surgeon was Dr. Martin Fischer. I had my surgery at St. Joseph's Hospital in Asheville, NC, July 17, 1985. They have since merged with Mission Hospitals. I haven't checked with Mission yet to see if the old records were archived. I don't remember the name of the practice other than my surgeon's name because it changed two or three times over the couple of years of followup and then dissolved completely. I never saw anyone other than Dr. Fischer.

Back then, there wasn't an awful lot of follow-up if you didn't have complications. I remember being in the hospital 8 days (major, open cut surgery). Followup up was two weeks, six weeks, three monthd, six months, 1 yr post op. I think I saw him again at 18 months and don't remember seeing him again after that. I believe he retired/moved about two years after my surgery and heard a few years ago that he had passed away.

You have gotten some very good advice here.   Larra is correct.   You cannot convert to a sleeve if your pyloric valve was removed with your original operation (but we are still not sure what you actually had done).

I hope you are able to get your hands on your old records so that the revision surgeon can find out exactly what your former surgeon gave you.

You're asking all  the right questions and I wish you the best of luck with your revision.
