Re Revision!?

Well here I go again... going to try to get an erny to ds revison.  I talked to Dr. M yesterday and he said he can do it, not yet taking that for a yes....  I have to get scoped first, and see if I have ulcers.

I really want to ask you all that are seeking revisions to really research and not to take a quick way to no where which is what I did!  I knew when I went to get a revision that I really wanted the ds, but I let myself get talked out of it way too easy!  I think If I would have insisted that I would have gotten it in the first revision.

I have the same issues as I did before, burning  pain unable to eat meat( unless ground or fried), hypoglycemia...

I beg you all to get the best surgery that has the best long term results!

I am not familiar with your history but I too am looking at a revision surgery from lapband.  I saw my doc today and I asked about the new sleeve since my insurance is now covering it.  He quickly pooed the idea saying they mostly do them on men and it is too new to know the long term results.  For my situation, he is doing the by-pass.  Good luck!

He probably pooed the idea because he doesn't do the sleve!  Kind of like if you are lookimg for a mercedes, but happen upon a hundai dealer... he is going to sell you a hundai...IF YOU LET HIM...

Look at this board... do you see any ds peeps looking to revise?

If you haven't go look at dsfacts.com and read a little. Spend some time on each of the various surgery boards.. see what they eat.. how they live.

Best of luck to you on what ever you decide!

" He quickly pooed the idea saying they mostly do them on men"

That is pure BS.  (Check out the VSG forum here for yourself.)  You need a new doctor.  I don't know your history or if the sleeve will work well for you or if DS might be better, but I do know that you need a doctor who is more knowledgeable and is not just selling you on the only surgeries he can perform.  I wish you the best of luck.

Good luck to you, Shele!  I'm not a vet, but I don't recognize Dr. M's name.  Have you checked him out on the DS forum?  Wishing you all the best with your revision!!!

Dr. Maguire is well known, he is actually a pioneer in wls, having been doing it since 1978.  He is my first revision surgeon, and has an excellent program.  He has the vitalady dry a and d vits right in his office.  He insists on getting reg blood work, and even asks me if I got a copy oir want one to keep track of whats going on.

I think he is just ultra conservative, and I just didn't push hard enough to get the ds revision the first time. I was having problems, but my main concern was re-gain that I wasn't able to control.  When I got an approval, I jumped the gun.  I should have pressed harder for what i knew I needed... kind of like problems with instant gratification I guess.

Thanks for the good wishes!

I beg you all to get the best surgery that has the best long term results

How can you push this surgery on people when you have not even had it? Do you know there are only about 2 doctors within a 200 mile radius of me that will perform it? And that some insurances don't cover DS because they consider it too risky? I have asked 3 different surgeons why they personally do not offer the DS to patients, and they all replied with "too many health & nutritional complications down the road that they do NOT want to be held liable for". Just because you are thrilled with the anticipation of having it done, does not mean it is right for everyone.

I am not PUSHING anything. I simply want people to be aware of all the options and to be well educated on all the surgieris and their fail/ success rates.   BUT I do know what I am talking about as I have the same common channel as alot of dsers,  I have lived it for 15 months now, and it IS better than Ruined and Why! I would suggest that you read up on things before you go and have another almost certain to fail surgery!  I was still considered a success as I maintained a 50% ewl at 5 years out.... not for me! YOU go right ahead.

They don't do the surgery because it takes a long time to learn it... they can't churn them out like the band and rny.

And they aren't going to sell you what they don't have to offer.

Good luck to you, I hope yours works out great for you... there are some really successful rnyers.  I just wasn't one of them!

Absolutely not, these are surgeons who have been practicing for 25+ years and do not want to be held responsible for massive nutritional deficiancies years down the road. Just because you were not successful at all your revisions does not mean RNY is not a good choice. I am tired of moseying on over to this board to see so many people pushing DS, and bashing other surgeries. Some of you have not even had revisions, just DS and are looking to debate surgery tactics with those asking innocent questions. Email me in 15 years and tell me how many thousands of dollars you have spent on vitamins, and how your general health is. Until then, we are done discussing anything.

Sure, and hopefully you are around, because you will have to live on a diet the rest of your life too keep your weight off... HMMM, why even bother... just go on a diet... skip the surgery hun!!You see I have lived both lives and the ds eating  is much more normal, and you will also have spent close to the same on vitamins, and maybe supplements like me.  I am unable to get the RNY required amount of protein with the pouch you are so eager to get.  I can't wait to not have to buy protein drinks. and be able to eat a real cut of steak.  I am sure I will be saving money.. better know of what you speak...

I have not bashed anyone's surgery,,, just simply want people to learn and research.  Sounds like you are well informed  I truly wish you the best!
