Slow Loss, Is This Normal

Good Morning,

I have recently (04/19/2010) had a revision surgery to my Roun-Y Laproscopic and had the same procedure again.

I have found that thus far that my weight loss has been extremely slow, but I do have the restrictions that I experience with my first surgery. I have lost approximately 15 lbs since surgery and plateaued for the last 2-3 weeks.

I have considered adding phetermine to my medical regimen to see if it can help at all. But I am not having a problem with "eating too much" its just that I can have whatever I choose.

I have found that I don't have a problem with dumping and I can tolerate candy, soda, sugars etc. I am not yet able to eat meats etc.

But I am curious to know if weight loss is slow with revision or if it is possible that revisions don't stimulate loss at all.

Please help or give suggestions. I want to make the most of this second chance.

I revised from an RNY to DS and the first month weight came off fast, then I stalled for 5 weeks.  I have to ask, why are you eating candy, soda, sugars?  I take it you're eating them if you know you can tolerate them - that might have something to do with you weight loss being slow.  If you can't eat meats yet, have you found any protein shakes you like?  That might help.

Well  i can say "im not" eating those things on the regular, but I have tried them. With graduations, summer events and my own wedding; there were times when "sweets" were appropriate for the occasions, but its not an everyday ritual.

I am trying different proteins now, and I appear to tolerate unjury best.

What surgery did you revise from?

So, you had your RNY re-done?  I'm wondering why it needed to be re-done--did they do it wrong the first time, or...?  This might hive some insight as to why the slow loss.

I had it redone because I experienced some weight gain after being 5 years post op and one pregnancy.
This revision was soley done in an attempt to help me get back down to the weight that I was prior to my pregnancy and help me to reach my goals.
I am losing; however its extremely slow.

OK, it's been a little over two months since your surgery, so you're losing about 7 pounds per month.  I would call that a little slow but not extremely slow.  As for the plateau, they are pretty common as I understand with the non-lalabsorptive surgeries like RNY.

Watch the fats and carbs, and load up on protein and fiber.  Keep taking your vitamins.  Try to get in some fun exercise if you have time (which you may not, with a baby!  By the way, congrats!)  I bet you'll start losing again soon!

I'm really sorry the baby didn't survive.  That must have been an awful thing to have to go through.

Your surgeon's office and their nutritionist might have some additional suggestions to make it easier to stimulate weight loss.  Take care!
