8 yrs post op from Gastric Bypass: Considering a Lap Band?

Hi. I will be 8 yrs out this August and having been contemplating getting a lap band.  My original doctor does not do them and we have been speaking over email about it.  I am thinking of using making an appt with Dr Roslin or Dr Kurian in NYC as they were part of Dr Leitman's original team. I've checked my insurance and they do cover bariatric surgery.

I was 305 before surgery, got down to a low of 175 (right after plastics) and hovered around 189 from 2002-2007.  The last 3 years I've put back on close to 50 lbs.

I'm not looking for any "advice" on how to lose the weight and I don't want any "go back to the basics" speak, I'm just looking to speak to anyone who has done Lap Band after RNY.

Thanks.

hi there i would look into vsg or ds before lapband as i had lapband  i would not suggest it to anyone it was the worst thing i ever did  i have been puking for 3 yrs straight it is being taken out in sept the problem is there is only so many fills and thats it i was still starving all the time even with the band full the whole thing was awful and very painful i hate the pain and discomfort at the port area have done alot of checking on the vsg and when they cut the part out of your stomach  the part that creates the hungry feelling all the time  is cut out that not the proper medical talk but you can check into it i have talked to so many people that hated the band  1 yr ago i took all  the fluid out as was sick of throwing up and was still throwing up all i could keep down was soft food like mac and cheese ect so the little that i did loose all came back i am the same weight as before the band but inches everywhere is wa bigger had a very hard time with fruit and veggies and any meat  glad to talk good luck robin i am gearing towards vsg with all the research i.ve done

Hello, I had RNY surgery in 2004 with Dr. Marc Bessler; I went from 314 to 167lbs over the last 2 years I've gained 47lbs so I choose to do a band over bypass.  I had surgery on 6/14/10; with Dr. Roslin.  I am doing wonderful no pain or anything.  Dr. Roslin performed my surgery in 45 minutes, he is an excellent doctor.  I am very swollen from all the gas but no gas pains.  I did my surgery in Lenox Hill.  I have nothing but good things to tell you.  I believe I made the right decision to do the band over bypass because I saw my weight going up and took action before it got beyond my control.  Go for it!

Hey.  I know Dr Roslin bc he used to be in a joint practice with my surgeon, Dr Leitman as well as Dr Kurian (AL Roker's dtr). While Roslin is the most arrogant man I've ever met, he is one hell of a doctor. I am planning on calling him for a consult. A few yrs back he was going a clinical trial for people with enlarged stomas and I was going to participate but my life was too insane.  Im going to see Dr Roslin, Dr Kurian and a Dr Rosen (who works with Leitman at Beth Isreal).

Surgery was 45 min?  We you under general anesthia?  Did you go right home or were you hopsitalized?  Who was your insurance with and what was the process like?

Yes my surgery was exactly 45 minutes, I was under general anesthia.  I was suppose to go home the same day but Dr. Roslin's first patient had complications and required more time than he thought which backed him up drastically.  My surgery was set for 1:45pm and  I was his 3rd patient and there was one after me.  I did not get called into the operating room until 6pm and when I woke up in the recovery room it was 7:30.  My husband told me they came and told him I was in the recovery room 45 minutes after I went in. Since my surgery was so late in the evening Dr. Roslin suggested that I stay over night to be observed, I did not mind I enjoyed the piece of mind at Lenox Hill hospital the staff there were very attentive.  I have Hip PPO through my job. Funny thing I too was suppose to do my surgery with Roslin when he was doing the experimental band over bypass for people with enlarged stoma's in September 2008;  but I had a lot going on that year as well.  In 2008; he sent me for an endoscopy and found out I had an enlarged stoma so when I went back to him in the end of April 2010 the only other thing he suggested I do was see the nutritionist and the psychiatrist which are all located in the same office all which my insurance covered.  Once I saw both the nutritionist and the psychiatrist they sent the insurance company the request it took 3 days and I got my approval.  It took them 2 weeks to give me a surgery date.   I think I made a great choice doing this band over bypass. I will keep you updated on my post visit and first fill.
