My friend had the gastric stapling with the ?mylar band years ago then  the lapband  She has had multiple problems since the band 2 yr.s ago. She now wonders if she can have  the RNY and also has hypothyroid and other problems so would be eligible .  She had the other surgeries open. Anyone else hve the same or similar and sucessful?

She should look into the Duodenal Switch surgery.   The RNY is soon to be passe and there are many people who are revising from the RNY to the DS surgery (which is a difficult and dangerous revision).   She should get the most successful WLS that she can and that's the DS.   Especially if she's already had a less than successful result with the gastric stapling and the band.

Go to the DS forum and ask them.

She should have a consult with a reputable WLS doctor and research her options.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but most so-called "reputable" WLS surgeons do not perform the DS surgery, and because they don't offer it, they won't even tell their patients about it.   Most people getting the RNY today would be better off with the DS surgery, which has the best success record for keeping the weight off long term, but they don't even know it exists!

Send your friend to WWW.DSFACTS.COM.  She will get lots of info about DS there AND they have a list of accredited DS surgeons so she can find a good doctor and not a bait and switch doctor.

After learning about DS from this website, then another good resource is the DS forum right here.

Hope this helps!

Yes on the DS, and only a few in us that do true ds revision, don't let her make another mistake.
