So what did you wind up doing?  I have the revision to a distal bypass.  I have lost 85 lbs in my first 10 months.  I do feel as if I live in the bathroom.  I disagree that it can be maintained by your diet.  At least that is not my experience.  My acid reflux is also worse.  I am low on my protein levels but good with everything else.  Would I do it again?  Ask me in a year.  Do I wish I could of had the DS.  Yes, but only because of what people say on here.  My doctor is one of 3 doctors on the east coast who specializes in DS.  He has chosen to stop doing it in most cases because  the risks do not out weigh the added weight you may lose.  I explained to my doctor how everyone on  here complains about the distal bypass.  He said he does it differently.  I don't fully comprehend what that means but I do know that I am having good results and from what I hear so are the people who had it done before me.  I know the average person who had this done by him was losing 50 lbs the 1st 6 months.  I haven't had the opportunity to ask him about the year mark average yet. One step at a time.

Hi I am thinking of having the distal bypass for  a revision. I have a few questions, one is what or how did your surgeon do different? how are you doing now since it has been over a year? are you still loosing weight?,.......thank you,,,I really need some info

Suzanne, I am scheduling with your surgeon for a revision to a distal bypass ( due to stoma problems I cannot do DS or sleeve). Anyway, how pleased were you with him, how has your journey been so far and have you been able to maintain your weight loss?  Also why did you revise to distal?

BTW he does distal differently in that he leaves 150-200cm in common limb vs 100 so that minimizes malabsorption.

I switched to distal because that it what he told me to.  I then had to have another revision to lengthen it to 150 because 100 was to severe for me.  I feel wonderful now & I am healthy.  I did recently gain 15 lbs of the weight I had lost, but I feel confident I can lose it again.  I like my doctor.  He is very serious but I feel he knows what he is doing & he answers all my questions.
