Is this a revision?

my surgeon told me that my stomach is almost in my chest so it needs to be pulled down and then he will shaved my pouch because it use to be a size of an egg but now its a small orange. in other words he's going to put my stomach back to its original state whn i had the bypass ten years ago. what kind of revision is this. he said he changed his mind about adding the ring because of complications.so im trying to see have anyone had this done and lost weight afterwards. if so how much weight can i lose like this.

Ms. Kay, I've never heard of this and have no idea what he's doing.   I don't know how shaving a pouch will make is smaller, it will just make the stomach lining thinner.  If I were you I'd seek a 2nd opinion.
Best of luck,
Debbie.

I agree with Debbie. Just making your pouch smaller may not do anything.

Do you have restriction? Or could you eat endlessly and never feel it?

If you have restriction, then maybe you should be looking at moving your limbs. If your doc doesn't believe in those types of surgeries, he will not suggest it to you.

yes i have some restriction. also he said something about what he will do so i will have the original restriction back that i had whn i first got the rny. but i cant think of what it was he mention.my friend will go in to have this done in 2 weeks because he told her the insurance didnt approve the lapband over her rny and i know mine doesnt either. he was going to put the ring on the end of my pouch but he said it may cause complications later. so this is whats he doing but he got approval for a hernia repair because her and i both have a hitial hernia.and he said he will fix our stomach back the way it was when we had the original bypass surgery.it will go put it back to the size of an egg instead because it has stretched to the size of a small orange. he said our weight loss will be at least 80lbs or more during the next year. neither one of us want to undergo this if i wont work.

Mmmm. Not liking it so much.

Unless the limbs are moved, you might not lose more.

The size of the pouch is sorta moot, because it's about the size of the stoma - restriction. As long as you can feel full, you're good.

I don't agree with BOB or ring, either, for the same reason he stated.

Is your complaint regain or non-loss?

yes i started to regain my weight two years ago very fast and my restriction was different. and when i checked i was told that my pouch had stretch and my sense of fullnest wasnt there due to having the sliding hitial hernia. so im looking for some answers before i make my final decision.

I think what we're both saying here is: go see Dr. Alverdy and/or Prachand.

Please.

Before you take another step.

 mskay,

I agree with michelle.  Your pouch WILL stretch over time, even after he reduces it again.....this is somewhat normal.  It should eventually stretch out to hold about 4 to 6 oz of food. (perhaps a small orange)   Now if the stoma is stretched as well this is a different story as you may have the feeling of always being hungry and act accordingly.

I would recommend a lot more research before undergoing the knife again.  I would also call your doctor and get EVERY detail of what his plans are.  Like mentioned above, if the limbs are left untouched your probability of loosing 80 lbs is probably slim.  There are many choices of revision for you that are not limited to just adding a band or ring.  I might also suggest a 2nd or even 3rd opinion with surgeons who actually perform several types of revisions and are actually revision wls specialist to get different perspectives and opinions on what might work best for you.  Don't just settle because this one doctor says thats the only choice.  It should be a choice made between YOU and your doctor not a decision made just by a doctor who only knows one kind of surgery.  Maybe your doctor has more knowledge and it has just not been mentioned and this is what he has recommended what is best, but it sure sounds a little off to me.

Good luck to you.
