Ok I am totally confused here what are the differences between BPD,BPD/DS and Distal RNY?  I am reading so many versions until I think I need to consult with my doctor again and maybe get him to draw me a diagram.

The intestinal arrangement is very similar in all 3.

With a distal RNY, there is a pouch created, like any RNY.

With the original BPD, the upper portion is preserved and the lower portion of the stomach is removed. The tp part was quite large in the original ones, 7-10 oz. The very early ones had a REALLY short common channel, as little as 50cm (about 20")

The DS version (some don't like it called a BPD at all) uses a vertical cut, the lesser curvature is retained, the balance of the stomach removed. The early ones were 7-10 oz, but some of today's are 1-3 oz.

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

All I know is the DS has the best long term results.  Side affects are different and it is very important that you take your vitamins for life and draw blood to make sure you are getting all of your nutrients.  Please don't let people scare you.  They mean well.  this is not time to listen to negativity.  All WLS are good it depends on what you are looking for.  They all have risk attached.  The least risky is lap band but long term results are not the same as the other surgeries.  If you google you can find about about them all.  DS has the highest long term success.  If you have not done so post it on the different forums.  Congrats and keep me posted friend...you life is about to change forever.  Get ready to shake a leg.....

Hope this helps.
I think it covers two out of the three.
