2nd Opinion on Revision!~ Desperate in Seattle

OK so I had GB RNY Nov 2004. I lost a total of 110lbs and keep it off for a few years. then things started to change I was able to eat ALOT more then usual, the grazing came back more, dumping  episodes were fewer and fewer I have gained all my lost weight back. I'm back up to 250lbs!!! I'm devastated, slipping into a true depression So I went to see a very well know WLS Surgeon in my area ( not my original Dr) but this guy is suppose to be one of the best! So he did all the test’s and looked into my pouch, etc. and told me… I WAS NOT A CANDIDATE FOR ANY TYPE OF REVISION!! THAT MY POUCH IS JUST AROUND 3 inches and was still “really small" and looked so good that he “wished some of his other patients had a pouch size like mine!!!" He thought that I just needed to get back to dieting and exercising again. So I have been doing that for several months now. Eating 1000 calories a day and 30mins of cardio 3 times a week but I have not lost 1 pound!! Can anybody tell me if they were ever told anything similar to this and still ended up having a revision? Any advice would be great!

If you are in WA, it'd be DS or distal RNY (they don't call it an ERNY here)

the others are the 6-wk fix.

and restriction is not your problem, so doing that is just pouring money away and you'd get no benefit.

I have what you'd call eRNY. Working rny pouch + intestinal arrangement of a ds.

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

Me? 6 week proc?

I had a staple line disruption. Only for older outdated surgeries. Newer ones don't have this flaw.

I said I had to take naps for 6 wks, but then, I'm old. LOL

It was a full surgery, 3 days in the hospital, done open (dark ages). As I said, I had beefed up my nutrition to ultra maximum to minimize my chance for leaks, since it's 3x original surgery.

Hi,

Sorry to hear what you are going through. I have the band and am having my own issues. I am converting to the RNY. Do your research on the revisions. I see that a lot of people have long term success with the DS (duedonal switch).   I am doing the RNY as I cannot afford to pay for another surgery and the RNY is covered in Canada.

As for excersice and dieting. Maybe consider lean protein, cutting processed starches go back to whole foods, cut out oil lots for low cal veggies. As for excersice  consider uping your cardio. 30 minutes three times a week won't put a dent in it. Try upping to 45 minutes 5 times (slowly work up to it). Also get some weights in there. Try getting a personal trainer just to set up a program and get your form down pact. Trust me if you have to resort to diet/excercise this will do the trick. It is so disheartening, I know but trust me on this. Upping your cardio, getting some good weight training in there will do the trick. If you want the program I am using let me know and I will forward it on to you. My aunt is a personal trainer and has been helping me along the way. It really works it you stick with it.

Take care.

Thanks for your reply. It was Dr. @ NW Hosp. and I mean he was ADAMENT that I did not need a revision. He kept saying things like " I wish the majority of my patients had your pouch" and " I feel so strongly that you dont need surgery that I would not feel comfortable doing it,etc" BUT I HAVE GAINED ALL MT WEIGHT BACK???

I am going to up my exersice but my back has been killing me lately again!

I am so confused!! I am goinf forward no metter what and am getting revision cause I have to win this battle! What is the best procedure? What did youi have exactly and how much have you lost?

Also can you share with me the insurance part of a revision? Is it anything like the inital fight for coverage for the 1st procedure? I got my RNY thru a appeal! It was a long battle!
