Need Adive Please

I was banded a little over 2 years ago. I have a small band which holds a max. of 4cc's. I am very sensitive to fills and my surgeon and I agree that I can only go up to 1 1/2cc's. In the beginning I do okay with the band. My weightloss has been very slow and even though I follow the "rules" I have had some major issues. I get to the point where I can't even swallow my own saliva so I get unfilled. This becomes a viscous cycle!

On friday morning I am having an endoscopy to see if my band has slipped or eroded. If either has happened I am considering a revision to the bypass. I just don't think at this point that the band is for me. I have tried and stuck it out for two years but this is crazy.

Has anyone else been in this position? If so, did your insurance cover your revision? My insurance covered my band surgery but not sure how revisions work.

All advice is glady welcomed!!!!

Thank you!!!

Jenn

Hi Jenn

I had a bigger band than yours (9ml) and even that was annoying after a while. I could only get restriction at 9.25ml, but was overrestricted to the point of choking at 9.26ml. I ended up only being able to eat ice cream and bad stuff, and my diabetes got worse rather than better.

For some people it works, for others it isnt right. Mine hadnt slipped or eroded but it still wasn't right. I had it out after 2 years and revised to a DS instead. The sleeve stomach that is part of the DS is much easier to live with, and I've lost about four times more weight with the DS with a lot less effort. It has cured my diabetes too.

Can't help with insurance - had to pay for both surgeries. All I would say though is find a good revision surgeon if you're thinking of getting something else. Doing revisions is specialist and it might not be your original surgeon that is the best to do it.

Hi Jenn,

I was banded about 31/2 years ago. I had the same issues that you did. My ins BCBS paid for my band and just paid for my RNY revision surgery. Check with your plane. Also, it never hurts to try to get auth.

Thanks, I will give my plan a call to see if this something they would cover. How are things going since your revision? Are you happy with your decision?
