I have a date- February 3rd
Hi Everyone, I just got my date today. I will have a conversion from a lap band to an RNY on February 3rd. I've begun stockpiling, protien, soups, stock, protien drinks etc. I am in a very different place then I was the first time. I am much more aware of my issues and how to minimize if not stop them from getting in my way. I look forward to being on this board. If anyone has any tips, products they love advice etc. I'd always love to hear it.
Congrats! I am hoping to have a revision from lap band to RNY in March or April. Reading my insurance company policy (Aetna Federal Employee) on revisions I should be approved, but, you never know how that will go!! Did you have to jump through a lot of hoops to get approved for your revision? I am currently doing a 3 month pre surgery program but that isn't so bad, as long as I get approved at the end.
I was denied at first but after my surgeon talked with my insurance company the denial was overturned. This took 12 long weeks. I'm not sure how to "friend" people on OH. Can you send me a request? It would be good I think to keep in touch since we have some common experience. Thanks for the congrats. I learned so much my first time around with WLS including the fact that RNY is what I should have had in the first place. I will use this knowledge for sure! Good luck on your journey.
You have got to be kidding; why would you get a revision from VSG to RNY? That makes no sense to me. You're already half way to a DS; if you need to lose more weight, revise to DS.

My guess is that your surgeon doesn't do the DS, so of course he's not going to tell you anything good about it; that would cost him $$$$$.
Before you do this, please, please, please look into the DS, you already have half of it done.

This was my first time on OH in a long, long time and since I posted to this thread, I have done more reading and have had my eyes opened to the possibility of DS. I plan to do more research and am giving DS a very serious look.....very intriguing. At this point, I'm a bit concerned that a DS won't get me where I need to be b/c I can still eat too much and desire/crave all the wrong foods. I don't see how the DS would help me overcome those issues. Do you have any thoughts about this?

With the DS the "wrong" foods are limited to carbs, mostly simple carbs & sugar. As a general rule with the DS you will absorb:
20% of the fats you eat.
50% of the protein you eat.
60% of the complex carbs you eat.
100% of the simple carbs you eat.
Good food for a DSer are things that are high protein; the fat content is irrelevant As and example, I wrote a post a few days ago about what a DSer would absorb when we eat a couple of BK Double Cheese Burgers. Here's the math on what a normal person or one with normal absorption would absorb and what a DS person would absorb:
For the RNY crowd: For the DS crowd:
868 Total Calories Absorbed 296.8 Total Calories Absorbed
56g fat = 504 Calories 56g fat @ 20% = 11..2g = 100.8 calories
35g carbs = 140 Calories 35g carbs @ 60% = 21g carbs = 84 calories
56g protein = 224 Calories 56g protein @ 50% = 28g protein = 112 calories
I also posted one about a meal I had at Texas Roadhouse, here's how that works out:
Normal / Unaltered / RNY / Sleeve DS Absorbed
Side Salad w Thousand Island Dressing
Fat 21g = 189 Calories 21g @ 20% = 4g = 36 Calories
Carbs 18g = 72 Calories 18g @ 60% = 11g = 44 Calories
Protein 9g = 36 Calories 9g @ 50% = 5g = 20 Calories
2 Rattle Snake Bites
Fat 8g = 76 Calories 8g @ 20% = 2g = 18 Calories
Carbs 6g = 24 Calories 6g @ 100% = 6g = 24 Calories
Protein 3g = 12 Calories 3g @ 50% = 1.5g = 6 Calories
8oz Dallas Fillet
