Good Evening Everyone,

I'm considering doing a revision on my RYN in 2010.  I had my original surgery on 5/9/02.  I started out at 343lbs; my desire weight is 160lbs.  I lost 150lbs and I gained 50lbs back.  My current weight is about 240lbs.  BCBS was my insurance provider at the time of my surgery in 2002 and I still have them as my insurance provider.

Not sure where to start out at...  I had my original surgery at the Bariatric Center in Ypsilanti and I would like to return to this facility for my revision.  I beilieve the doctor who did my surgery is 2002 is no-longer at this facility.  Need to know if there is anyone out there that goes to this facility and if they could recommend a surgeon for my revision so I can do my research.

Also, need to know if it's hard to get approval for revisions through BCBS PPO?

Thank you all for your help!

Enjoy your evening

Here's some DS Surgeons in MI and MN, I'm not sure which ones do revisions other than the two in MN. The others may also do revisions, I just don't know.

You're welcome, but I should have mentioned that I'm pretty sure these surgeons also do RNY and some may do Lap Band. The DS is the most difficult of the WLS and there are fewer surgeons who are vetted to do the DS, if they can do the DS, most likely they can do any WLS.

I also have BCBS PPO Michigan, and approval for a revision was no problem.  They will not approve for a DS, or at least my policy would not.  Yours might be different.

You should call Barix and ask if any of their surgeons are doing revisions.   If so, I would make an appointment with them just for a consult.

If you look at the surgeons on this site, it will list if they do revisions or not, but remember they pay to be listed here, so do your research.

I am going through St. John Weight Loss and they gave me a code for revison and I called BCBS to ask if it was covered.

Hey Brenda...what type of revision were you approved for?? I am trying to get a revision from RNY to DS and I went to Barix back the  Bariatric Treatment Center...1995, I also have  BCBS PPO. I have an appt for consultation with Barix on 1/22/10 to find out what my options are for a revision...I know that I do not want a band of any sort for revision...but I dont know what else they offer..they dont offer the DS for sure...

I was approved for just a revision to the pouch and stoma, which I had done at St. John Oakland with Dr. Katz.
They would not approve revision to DS.
I can't tell you how it turned out, since I'm just 3 days out of surgery!

Thank you Brenda...I have a few more questions, how long did the surgery take? and what is the success rate? I know that with any revision you lose slowly but is it a sufficient amount of wt loss? what I mean is 100lbs, or 50%, 60%, 80% expected wt loss? I dont mind it being slow as long as I can start to lose again, and stop gaining. I know you are just 3 days out, but what did the dr tell you that can be expected...please my consultation isnt till 1/22 and I kinda wanna know what to expect. Thank you for any info you can give...and congrats on your revision and I wish you much success.
