Revision to RNY Friday!
Okay, today is Monday and I am having revision surgery (Lap Band to RNY) on Friday (11/13)!
I Can't believe it's almost here. I am nervous but excited. Nervous to be put under. Nervous about the pain afterward. I've been through several surgeries before and NONE of it was too bad. Don't know why I am a bit more fearful this time. Maybe because I know this time things are going to be "re-arranged".
Also, I have to say that it is a bit frustrating to hear of RNY patients who are unsuccessful. So hearing from those of you who are successful (especially Lap revisions to RNY) is wonderful! I just do not want to go from an unsuccsefful Lap Bad to something else "unsuccessful". I think this is my biggest fear! I know I need to be strong, believe in myself and have a full understanding of how my life must change in reguard to food, nutrition, etc.
Also, I wasn't instructed to do any special pre-op diet. I have decided to just go easy, try to do protein only Monday - Wesdnesday and on Thursday do only liquid to kinda "clear me out".
FYI - I am 5' 1 & 1/2" - 200 lbs, so my BMI is 37.2. My BMI goal is 22 so weight goal is 118. Total weightloss with Lap Band was 37. Height weight was 237, lowest weight since band was 165.

You'll be fine ! Good idea to go easy on food since you'll be on clears for awhile postop to keep the intestine from working. Reason for no liquid requirement is Dr. explained small intestine clears in 8 hr.s and that's where he does the surgery. Passed gas day after surgery so use gasX for the shoulder pain. Mine was in my upper arm not under the clavicle. They gave me a pill Amende for nausea lasted 2 days no problem. Didn't like the extremely dry throat and nose. They gave me something in the IV as they wheeled me to surgery and it worked right away I don't remember anything after they unlocked the wheels to roll. Was shakey the first night but they kept me medicated with Toredol and a pain pump that I went home with. I just have had pain in my left side where the port was and the hiatal hernia was repaired. I have 5 incisions and this is better pain than the lapband hiatal hernia repair in which I couldn't sit up or bend. All my incisions are above the waist line.I 'm switching off lortab today and taking a litttle with tylenol and I'm feeling better that way. Don't stay in the recliner all the time . My back got stiff now is better with softer chair.Build up the cushions on the sofa with pillows under the cushions so you don't have to strain to get up. That's working good for me. I'm short too with knee problems.Take only a sip or 2 of fluid with you pain medicine then wait a half hour before drinking more. I found if I drank too much with the medicine it washed the medicine through then worked too fast made me drowsy and wore off in 2 hr.s. Didn't need night gown or books was too busy sleeping ,drinking or walking. Wear something very loose noticed I was swollen when I put clothes on postop day 3.If possible have someone stay with you in the hospital. They tried to give me medicine too soon. I'm a nurse so I knew better and we compromised. Also they can't come as quick as you need them. Good Luck!
Hello... just wanted to wish you the best of luck on your revision Friday. I will be thinking of you. I had my revision from band to RNY on 8/31. Have lost 42 lbs and am extremely happy with the revision. I wish I had done the RNY from day 1. Make sure you update us when you get home.
all the best
