Lapband to RNY recovery question
I am home, still on clear liqs but boy, it still hurts every day. The problem is my band that I had since April 07, grew scar tissue around it and the port. The port removal site is big and painful. I have developed a seroma there which adds to the problem.
All in all, I will be off 3 weeks. I am a nurse but work at a desk.

hi I had my band removed 9 weeks ago and at the same time they revised to RNY bypass. They were able to do it laparscopically. I was out of work for 2 weeks and then went back to work shorter hours for two weeks. it is not because of the pain that you can't return sooner; it is more fatigue. I probably could have pushed it to work longer hours sooner but chose to play it cautious. As far as pain, the first day i had some pain but other than that nothing intolerable. When I was discharged from hospital I did not take any painkillers.
If they are unable to do this laparascopically (I think about 80% of the time they can), then you may need more time. I myelf had alot of scar tissue (had 3 previous abdominal surgeries including two lapbands) and they were still able to do it laparascopically.
You should do fine. Good luck and if you have any questions feel free to ask.
