I stumbled upon this post on the DS board from Brok.  Below it the link to his post.  He has some VERY GOOD points regarding this article, and VERY GOOD responses as well.  Go check it out!!

The link for the article is in his post.  Here is a little Copy & Paste" of the article:

Another field of bariatric surgery that industry is trying to develop new procedures is for revision of previous gastric bypass procedures. It has been shown over time that gastric bypass patients will stretch their pouch and stretch the stoma or connection between the stomach pouch and the small intestine allowing the patients to eat more because the stomach pouch empties faster. Approximately 20 to 30 % of gastric bypass patients will have some weight gain many years after their surgery.

The thing I find unfortunate is the verbage; not the message.  "bypass patients will stretch their pouch and stretch the stoma or connection between the stomach pouch and the small intestine"  (visions of little stretching divices inserted on purpose by bypass patients!!)

It is a muscle.  Muscles stretch.  Better wording would be:  over time the pouches stretch blah blah blah while for some it is minimal and for some it warrants a Revision....

what d'ya think?  I HATE the assigned blame card we are dealt for years and years!  NONE of these surgeries are free of possible flaws.  Humans perform them, humans work them and so it is impossible with ANY surgery to have consistent perfect results.

So what's my point?  Failed or flawed WLS is what it is so if you have a stretched pouch then hop on this board, research your options and then get a fix!!!  Be pro-active, be responsible to work it the best you can with supplements, vites, exercise, etc.  All we can do is make informed decisions and be compliant.

Off my high horse now

Joyce, I understand that one!!!

I just wanted to pass along the information & link, for people to read on their own... but, I had to do the "cut & paste" for that portion... I mean.... c'mon!!!  I TOTALLY, TOTALLY agree on you point of view!!.  Very well said.... because sometimes (OK, alot) I just cannot put my thoughts down correctly on the messageboard & my point does not get across to the other readers as I had intended.
