I cannot afford $7,000 for an out of pocket procedure - never will I be able to afford that financed or otherwise.  ROSE is pretty new - is it not the same thing as the Stomophyx?

I wish you luck no matter what!!!

Hi
I would tend to agree with what Kathy is saying.  I have had 2 lapbands for 9 years with disappointing results and continual problems.  It's not to say that the band is not effective for some people.  However, I am having a revision in 11 days to an RNY.  The band does act as restriction but it is extremely easy to overeat and your esophagus begins to act as a stomach and thus you can eat more as your esophagus compensates by dilating.   The band worked for a lot of years for me in that I did not gain a significant amount of weight back, however, I did lost only about 1/2 the weight I was supposed to and probably 50 of the 100 lbs I lost I lost before I had the band put in.

I do know people who have had a band put on an RNY and have had some luck there.

Of course, your case is uniquie to you and has it's only medical issues.

Whatever you decide I wish you the best of luck in your journey.

Hi Tracy,

I too had RNY about 5 years ago.  I was 289 lbs. when I had that surgery and got down to 202 lbs.  About two years ago I noticed a slight weight gain and after my Dad passed a more rapid gain.  I am currently 245 lbs and am scheduled for band over bypass on Sept. 29th.

I originally heard about the Rose procedure, however my Surgeon said I needed to lose more then the Rose procedure could provide.  We decided upon the Band over Bypass.

I am also interested in hearing from anyone else who is going through this now, or anyone who has had this type of revisional surgery.

Thanks!

From what I have read and because I like to know about ALL the surgeries you can go from a RnY to the DS but please consult with a DS specialist.  If you go to the DS forum here on OH they have a fountain of information and doctors etc.  I believe someone posted the link.

The main thing that I like about the DS and the VSG is that we have normal function stomachs and our pyloric valve is kept intact.  This valve allows "normal" emptying from your stomach into your intestine, so there is no streching of the stoma, which I believe you have.  Bascially the go in, put your stomach back together and then remove the outter curvature of your stomach given you good restriction.  I can't speak on the intesting reput or put back and reroute, but I'm sure the new bypassing would address the problem you have with diverticulum in the jejunum.

Now lastly regarding your head issues that is the HARDEST part of this journey and I believe no matter your surgery CARBS will ALWAYS be the devil.  You would have to ask a DSer specifically about how carbs interact with the DS.  I know they can do fats but I think even in EXCESS they have problems and can gain weight or not loose.

I'd find a GREAT DS revision surgeon or two and get at least their opinions.

Good luck to you.

Guess I'll chime in here too!  I had a band placed over my old bypass in 12/08 and have lost 48 lbs so far.  Weight loss is slow, but recovery time is quick.  band can be fussy with fills etc, but so far it has enabled me to recognize the many ways that I sabotage myself.  I have learned so  much in 8 months and I am thankful that there are so many options for all of us.
