Experience of Surgeon?

I need a revision due to a slipped band and am leaning towards the DS. The surgeon I just consulted with has done many lapbands, over 400 DSes, seems to be well respected, and has low death/complication rates. However, he hasn't ever actually done a lapband to DS revision. Would this concern you?

YES, that would be alarming to me!!!!!!!!
Might want to do some research on surgeons.

I know that a revision from a lap band to a DS is not quite as risky as from a RNY to a DS so if your surgeon has tons of experience with DS it may be ok.  But check all your options and surgeon choices to make sure you are comfortable with your choice.

I would also post this question on the DS board.  You will probably find many folks there with actual experiences to help you out.

Good Luck to you.

I wouldn't be that worried personally.

There are two difficult bits to the revision - the intestinal bit, which is no different to having it done as a first-timer. And the stomach sleeve, which can be trickier for bandsters. You might already have thickened stomach walls or scarring on them, which can make the stitching of your new sleeve more difficult.

But if your surgeon has experience of this then he knows what to expect. And in my surgeons case he insisted on a 2 month gap between getting the band out and doing the DS just to be on the safe side - if you're worried you could talk to him about that. The band removal was done lap and I was in and out in a day, so that part of it is quick enough.
