Okay everyone...I made it home Wednesday Night and I rested all day yesterday...I feel so good I can't even begin to tell you....
I weighed in first day of pre op diet at 214 this morning I weighed, after a new scale was purchased 189!!! I have lost 25 lbs in 3 weeks and I am stoked....Biggest thing to remember though is who I am and how easy I could lose this is I'm not the most careful I've ever been.
Your thoughts, phone calls, visits and well wishes were so very important to me...Your outcries of love and caring made me want to hear from my OH Board family more than my own...That wasn't very nice but really you all are so kind and considerate.
I had a little incident with the pain patch last night once I left the hospital I left with a morphine pain patch fendynal I think is the name and man it wasn't like the IV shots but it worked smoothly and comfortably but I woke up last night and I toldl my husband to get the elephants off the bed he was like okay I'm ripping that pain patch off...No problem I said, come get it and that was the end of the pain medicine, cold turkey as of today and no problems...I feel better today than I have in 3 years...Lovin it, just lovin it...
I think I mentioned before that Dr. S removed a hernia, small portion of the bowel which was overtaken by scar tissue, as well as he removed a lot of scar tissue and shortened my common conduit to 100 also while in there he found where I hadn't been bypassed hardly at all during my RNY go figure as successful as my RNY was for me, if it had been done right I don't think I would have ever gone down the surgery path again....

I hadn't stuck my head into a fresh post-ops room for a long time! It jazzed me up, jump started my own joy in the journey and I got myself over to the gym!!! I'd been given the green light to work out lightly again a few weeks ago but had to wait for the right trigger to propel me through the doors! LOL! Well....in one week I was able to make it from a 9 minute half mile (whiimpy) to a 15 minute 1 mile plus a few leg machines! .... It is soooooo hard to start over when I'd had my body in competition/athlete form at one point after my first surgery.
I gained 5 pounds while working out this week though. I can't even consider using the "muscle weighs more than fat" story! So, I'm on protein drinks today with some grilled chicken strips to nibble when my teeth need to knosh something! I am NOT going to let 5 pounds hang around! ....Especially since I just bought 2 cute swim suits for the season
Take care of yourself and don't lose all of your weight in one week girlfriend! Congrats on the 25 lbs! Holy Cow! That's more than TWO bowling balls!

tell me what the difference is between a Prox RNY and Erny, I had an Open RNY and not sure what the difference is between them all.

The basic answer is that it's a measurement difference. Proximal= least bypassed, Medial= a bit more, Distal = event more, ERny= the most. The shorter the common channel (the stem of the Y) then the MORE malabsorption one will have and the higher the possible weight loss and long term success.

There is really one type of RNY, which consists of a pouch with the small intestines changed around and reconnected in a Y chape, the bottom of the Y being the common channel where food and digestive juices mix before entering the large bowel. This is a brief explaination.
Proximal refers to how much small bowle is bypassed, proximal meaning 50-100 cm of bowel bypassed. Sometimes a surgeon bypasses 100-150cm and this is sometimes referred to as a medial. Distal means anything over 150cm bypassed, and can mean as much as 400-500 cm bypassed. The more small bowel bypassed, the shorter the the bottom of the "Y" configuration is. Meaning less fats, vitamins, carbs, and other foods will be absorbed.
When a person has the traditional RNY, distal, medial, or proximal, and gets the bowel portion of the surgery revised, it is called Extended RNY, or ERNY. This means the stomach pouch isn't changed, unless the surgeon just tightens up the stoma, or the pouch, but doesn't take down the pouch and make it into another proceedure.
If one gets an ERNY, more calories are malabsorbed, and the person should lose more weight.
There are a few of us who have what is called a " true" distal, or ERNY as a first surgery, not as a revision.
I hope I didn't confuse you! Ithink some people would say to ask your surgeon to bypass as much as possible, because the malabsorption helps keep weight off later down the road. Just know that vitamins will play a big role in good health when anybody has surgery that malabsorbs food. And the less food is absorbed the more vitamins are needed

I meet with my Dr. on 6/17, so I am hoping he will do the revision. According to his Nurse, he just has to code it right.

It sounds as if your doctor did what needed to be done when he was in there. Did you want him to wait and ask you after the surgery. The conditions you describe could be life threatening if left untreated and it was the part of the stomach you were not using so it is difficult to scope, xray or treat. This surgery has only been around for 30 yrs or so and it has not been used extensively until recently. So, there are complications that occur that are unique to the person.
I am just thankful that you are alive and well enough to ask the question. It sounds to me as if you had a skilled and competent surgeon. Rejoice in your new journey.
