Truthfully I haven't heard of removing the remnant stomach but that doesn't mean it isn't done when needed. Whenever they revise RNY patients to DS they always remove the remnant stomach. I would say that you should be happy about it as the remnant stomach produces grehlin which is a hunger hormone that after removal you should feel less hungry.

Do you know where the ulcers were, because that could be the reason he had to remove the remnant stomach...or the fistulas...order a copy of your surgeons notes. Then you can get them clearly explained to you once you have them.
