Hi Everyone,

I had an RNY in 1984 and do not understand any of the specifics.  Can anyone explain the following to me?  It is from my doctors surgical notes.

I would like to know how this compares to the bypassing and the pouch sizes in the new RNY's.

Thank You........Marcia

My RNY notes:

"Stapled the stomach from lesser to greater curvature leaving a proximal
pouch of about 50-60 cc."

"The jejunum was transsected eight to ten centimeters distal to the ligament
of trites."

"The distal cut end was brought up and anastomosed to the proximal gastric
pouch with silk creating 1.5 cm anatomosis through which the nasal gastric tube
was placed.

"50 cm distal to the gastrojejunostomy enteroenterostomy was performed again
using the TIA."

The report describes the creation of a small pouch, 50-60 ml, and then says you are bypassed 50cm from the pouch to where the intestines are joined with the section that brings stomach secretions into the lower intestines to digest. The part about bring up the cut end, is where they cut the intestines apart, and then joined it to your pouch.
Go to the RNY board here, and look at the pictures of the surgery.

Sally,

Thank you so much for the information.

I am considering a revision and was curious to know how my RNY compares to the new RNYs.

My pouch and stoma are both quite large now....after 20+ years and a few dilating procedures .....as well as incorrect eating......

Thank You again......
