HAVE QUESTIONS ON VITAMINS
Hi everyone,
I would like any and all ERNY'ers to come forward and tell us what their vitamin regimand is?
I am having ERNY as a lot of you know on May 20th and I really want a clear idea of what you folks are already doing out there to get good lab results.
How many of each and the dosage would be great.
Also, any other healthy tips?
Janie
Here is what I take
Bariatric Advantage Multi w/extra ADEK 1 x 3 day (3 tablets)
Vit. C with Iron 500mg with 29mg iron
Sublinguil B-12
Vit. A (15,000 iu day)
Vit K (1000 iu x 3 day) don't take this unless informed to do so.
Vit D (5,000 iu x 2 day)
Calcium (600 iu x 2 day) I probably should up this amount to 1500-2000iu a day.
B-complex 50 (1 day) not required, but I have been taking them since RNY
You really need to go on what your labs say and what the Dr. suggests.
Good Luck and you will do great. Hope to meet you next week if I am able to get up to your room.

Do you ever feel bad after taking vitamins or full? Sometimes I get really nauseous from them.
Also, I can't take any kind of pain meds orally as it gives me severe pain in my abdomen...The kind of pain that feels like two people are twisting my intestines from each end. It's horrible. So after surgery I'm sure the pain killer will be shots...but what about after you leave did you need pain meds then?
Thanks,
Janie

I don't feel too bad after taking my vitamins, I split them up over the course of the whole day. Some of them probably should be taken with food, you would have to ask the Dr. that question as I am not sure.
As far as the pain, I did have pain after the surgery and when I went home. There are options for the pain that are not pills. There are liquids, shots, pain patches. Talk with the Dr. regarding your issues before you have surgery and make sure he understands your problems. If you can take tylenol, it will be helpful in place of the liquid Lortab he ususally gives, which also has tylenol in it. He can give IV meds when you are in the hospital, but talk to him about when you are out. I used pain meds up to about 6 weeks out when I needed them. Most of the time near the end it was tylenol.

I'm hoping part of my problem is corrected when he does the hernia surgery. But I've also been told it could be an ulcer...who knows what makes my stomach do what it does....I used to get the pain whenever I would drink carbonated soda...so I quit that altogether...Then it started whenever I took any pain meds. It was really crazy how it comes on.
We'll see if part of the hernia repair takes care of it or not.
So spreading the vits up during the day seem to do the trick better?...
Thanks again,
Janie
3 dicalcium malate (provides 1000g calcium)
50,000 iu of dry vitamin D3
25,000 iu of dry vitamin A palmitate
1000g vit C
2 vitamin B complex
1000 ug B12
4 billion probacillus
Labs have been fine so far - the only thing I was low on last time was vitamin C (oddly) so that's why I'm taking so much. The A and D are high doses only suitable for malabsorbers (they'll poison normies) and the calcium is to keep bone thinning at bay. eRNYers might have to take more B12 - never quite understood why but you don't produce as much of that.
Quite a few people take iron too - I've avoided it so far, but which ones to take seems complex. Vitalady has a list for RNYers and is an eRNYer herself so she could help if she's not swamped!

Hey Janie,
am
3 200 petite calcium citrate (600)
1 centrum multi
1 b50 complex
1 dry A 25000
1 dry d 5000
noon 2 200 petite calcium citrate (400)
mid-day 2 petite calcium citrate(400)
1 centrum multi
bed
3 petite calcium citrate(600)
1 vit dry d 5000
totals
2 multi, 10,000 vitamin d, 25,000 vitamin a, b-50 complex 2000 calcium
I think my calcium used to make me feel sick, so I switched to the petites. I have to take more of them, but it seemed to help. I was good at taking my vits, but I took too mant at once. I also have heard taking them with milk helps, but I am lactose intolerant. I do eat a little food and then take my vits, and then a little more food( as in 1/2 cheese stick), it also seems to help.
I have got the order for my labs, so when I go back in 3 weeks I will know how my levels are doing.
No on the sublingual b-12, and Iron. I did do the b-12 sublingual before the erny. Doc only requires iron if still menstrating, or labs become low.
I tell you I used to be sick daily, and pain would wake me in the night. The onlything that would relieve it would be to eat! No wonder I gained so much, but at the time it was a gradual thing and just got out of hand.
I did/do? have an ulcer at the stoma. I take nexium everyday. I had been on prevacid and a couple other meds, but nexium seems the best for me. I no longer have the pain and burning(what I always mistook for hunger!), as long as I take it. If I skip more than a day my body reminds me lol!
