ROSE Procedure

Of course, we all need to make the appropriate decisions for ourselves. I agree and support anyone in doing what they need to do. However, (and I realize this is sensitive and difficult for people - myself included - who are wrestling with weight regain and trying to figure out how to stem that tide...) - let me put it this way; if I saw a person crossing the street and there was an oncoming car that I knew had malfunctioning brakes - so that I KNEW that person was going to get hit - would I stand by and not scream, "get out of the way!" - of course, I would let that person know to get out of the way! This is how I feel about these procedures, based on tons of research and personal experience. I hate that people are self-paying thousands of dollars for these procedures with expectations for success that can't be realized! Now, if progress has been made so that the ROSE procedure is in fact newly effective - in other words the brakes work fine! - I will be the first one cheering on anyone wo opts for it. But make sure you can answer these questions: how have you moved your body today? What exercise have you done? What have you eaten today? Did you stay away from crap food today? This is the true revision - revision of mental attitude, behavioral change (exercise and healthy eating every day of our lives) ... it's hard, hard, hard work. And I am as sad as anyone who has gained some of the weight back. But I know WHY I've gained and no revision surgery in the world will be successful unless I will honestly commit to a strict regimen of healthy eating and hard exercise every day of my life. I realize this is not what people want to hear, and I don't mean to be contentious! Honestly, I don't! I am as supportive as anyone can be! I'm merely shouting from the curb - get out of the way! Be well all. Maureen

Hi all-

I am new on here and found the site while researching different revision procedures.  After extensive research, the ROSE procedure seems to be the best fit for me.  Pretty much all I have seen on OH is negativity about the procedure.  However, numerous clinical studies have proven this procedure to be quite successful.  Is it possible that the few patients on this site that participated in the study and failed did so in its very preliminary stages last year before the surgeons had sufficient experience in how to perform the procedure precisely for the best results (accurate placement of anchors on pouch and stoma, amount of anchors, etc.)?  I am trying to remain optimistic...overall study results can't lie, right (that would be the ultimate letdown)?? I sure would hope not and I do strongly believe there are ethical laws prohibiting doctors from publishing less than accurate findings regarding clinical studies.

There is a barriactric surgeon in my area that has performed this procedure and had great results in his patients.  Here is the link to the news story which finally allowed me to hear a LIVE person talking about their experience for the very first time: http://www.cbs8.com/Global/story.asp?S=10314535.

It was refreshing to hear the amount of weight and gave me a light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks for any input.  I have forwarded my Operating Report from my RNY per his office's request and have a meeting with him on 5/20/09.  I will keep everyone posted and also if I hear additional success stories from his patients (crossing fingers). :)

You are kidding, right?  Have you seen the bull Inamed/Allergan writes about the lap band?  Studies are twisted every which way until they prove what the author wants to prove many times.  Do you have any idea how Inamed got the band through the FDA process?  It wasn't done by honesty.

You may well "strongly believe" this but it doesn't make it so.  With all due respect I believe you are quite naive. :o(

Good luck to you, sadly I believe you'll need it.  Please don't misunderstand, I really *do* hope you do well, unlike all the others.

My "strong belief" stems from the fact that I am a lawyer and we have such strict ethical guidelines we must comply with when it comes to advertising legal services, including obtaining approval from the State Bar prior to publishing/airing...I would only hope the same applied to medical doctors. I have spent over 30 hours this past week painstakingly researching revision procedures online and every barriactric surgeon in San Diego, CA that performs them.

Thanks for calling me naive, midwesterngirl.  I hope that makes you feel better today and I will throw that in my knapsack of "fat, gross, disgusting" and other worse descriptive words I have been called that have led to my incessant lack of self-confidence in my life.  Way to go.

And to think I actually logged on here right now to ask YOU specifically about researching a Tijuana doctor for possible lap-band over RNY.  I hardly require assistance from somebody who haphazardly calls me such an adjective without knowing a thing about me.  To say you really wish me the "best" at the end of your comment hardly negates the fact that you insulted me and is entirely non-heartfelt.  Wow, from opinions to insults overnight.

Actually, this makes me want to completely cease utilizing this site for information & opinions.   So for that I thank you.

Your strong belief is misplaced.  As a lawyer you should well know the laws regarding these things.

Naive, it's not a slam it is simply true.  I'm naive when it comes to the law.  I'm quite good when it comes to my own profession - medicine.  Now, if you insist on being insulted I can't stop you but do understand, you are being insulted by choice and not reality.  Your attempts at manipulation are misplaced.

You are free to see my profile and it will assist you in finding a TJ lap band surgeon for your Rose procedure in the US.

Wrong again.  I have practiced specifically Bankruptcy & Foreclosure law for 8 years...why would I know anything about the ethical requirements for doctors??  It is not even one of the 5 legal subjects one is required to have thorough knowledge of when taking the CA Bar.  Come on now. Leave it alone already.

Lisa, I didn't see the comments made to you by Midwestern, because I have her blocked. I read YOUR posts and can deduce the rest.
I have her blocked because she is negative on every front. I could never really get her own personal story, I just got that everyone BUT her was basically stupid, and unable to make intelligent choices for his/her own health care and wellbeing. ( her opinion, not mine!)
People can post opinions without denigrating other people or other choices.
So don't stop using this site. The block feature works very well, and surely makes my reading experience here worthwhile, since I can read relevant posts from people who clearly state their own story, experiences and reasoning without negative posts.

Thank you, Sally.  I excitedly found the block feature yesterday! :)  I will not let one (or 2 or 3) negative apples spoil the whole bunch.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. :)

Thanks again!!!

HI Lisa,

I am in the beginning stages of my research on the Rose Procedure. I was impressed by your optimism and I wish you the best of luck and may God be with you through your procedure. I will be reading your input daily. I live in WV and don't even know where to start looking for doctors who do this procedure close to me. I am in the panhandle of MD, VA, PA and WV. I had my Gastric Bypass on June 1, 2004 lost 96lbs and now have gained 40lbs back. I am very fearful for my health.
Again, I wish you luck and look forward to your posts.

Hi Debbie,

Please visit my page for my updated blog! :)  I did not go with the ROSE procedure due to lack of positive statistics it had to date.  After MUCH extensive research, I opted for the Lap-Band over my gastric bypass and had it done on 5/28/09..

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions, okay?

Hi Lisa I know it's only been 13 days however I must ask ,how are you doing? I wasn't aware that the Lap Band could be done over the RNY surgery. When I had my surgery I was very ill for about 4 weeks and had wished I'd never done it. I would like to find a more noninvasive alternative.
I hope that things are going very well for you. Have you lost any weight yet?

The one thing I was never told when considering my surgery was the emotional stress that it would put on you. I am very depressed and disgusted with myself for putting myself through such a dangerous surgery and now I am going right back up. Please believe me I am not feeling sorry for myself I am just so confused. I thought this was the answer to my dilema and it sure has not been.
Please keep me informed of your progress and as always I pray for absolute success for you.
