OMG OMG OMG – I have been approved for revision surgery!  From a lap band to the RNY !  Was going with the DS but insurance said I did not have a high enough BMI – so the RNY is right for me.  I have 100 pounds to lose so I feel God chose this for me and it is the right decision! My surgery is scheduled for Friday April 24 which works perfectly with my school schedule since I work in an academic office !  You will be hearing more from me for guidelines and lots of questions ! Thank you all for your wisdom and insight into the procedure!

Congradulations. I hope all your weight loss dreams come true. Since you did the research, and you feel RNY is your best option, I respect your decision. I hope others who post here also respect your choice.
You go girl!

Thank you for your support and kind words!  VERY much appreciated !! Please tell me how long your common channel is (if you know) and what I should requiest for the RNY to work.  I of course will talk to the Doc about this specifically - but just wanted words fromthe experienced !
Thank You again.

I had a rny in 04,, lost weight but never made it to goal. I re-gained for several reasons, mechanical failure( ulcer, elongated pouch, and dialated stoma) .  I also gave up after a while and stopped fighting as it seemed to no avail.

In the ERNY they bypass more intestine, leaving the pouch alone.  In my case the Dr. leaves a 100 cm common channel.  This relults in malasorbtion rates much the same as a DSer has.

um.. I will need to ask my doc.  I knew the erny was more intestine removed... just wanted to make sure.  I wonder if the insurance has to approve the quantity of intestine removed or just the surgery itself ?!?!?  THANK you for your answers !

I just wanted to say that the surgeon is the one who decides how much intestine to bypass. The insurance just approves the revision. I have blueshield of california through the State of California and that is the way it was for me.

Congratulations!  Getting that approval feels good.  I just had revision on Tuesday from an old stomach stapling from 1987 to a RNY.  I'm glad I did it - but due to scar tissues from the earlier procedure it had to be done open.  I feel like I just got hit by a mac truck.  But everyday does feel better I felt super bad yesterday [bye bye morphine pump], today I only feel bad...who knows...tomorrow... I'm working on "almost good" and in a month I expect to feel super.

Again, congratulations and best wishes.
