I didnt have erosion but when my band was removed the surgeon said the top bit of my stomach (above the band) had expanded and kind of flopped down to cover the band itself...no wonder I could eat quite a lot!
I seem to remember that erosion hurts - if you havent got any pain then you hopefully havent got it! I had a lot of reflux though, which made living with it too hard.
Best of luck with your investigations.

Get the upper GI done ASAP and if the band has slipped get the surgery. The followup people delayed testing on my wife by 5 months, and the result which probably started when she went from an inability to eat to being hungry and able to eat fully, was erosion of the band. That resulted in open stomach surgery and 5 days in intensive care. If they had only listened to her in January when she first complained and we explained why we thought her band had slipped, this almost certainly would have been slippage without erosion. Submitted for my wife Jeanna in Syracuse.

Hi luvelyn2hot2,
Actually the only thing I have is weight gain. I lost 13 lbs with the band then gained back 19 lbs.
So, I hope this Upper GI will show something, if it slipped or erosion.
Thanks for reponding.

Hi,
In most cases, there are no symptoms, but if there are they can range from reflux to the ability to eat more. Although erosion is possible its more likely you have pouch or esophageal dilation since this is a more common complication of banding. I had a band for almost 5 years and had lots of problems after year two so I speak from experience.
Babs

Thanks Barbara B.
I 'm going to get an Upper GI done on Monday. If there is a problem with the band, I will get a revision. I 'm going through the steps so my insurance will cover it. If there is nothing wrong with it, then I guess I will have to work with it. Start all over with the band. This time I have a new doctor who is a Bariatric Surgeon she has experience with all WLS surgeries, not just the Lap Band. Thanks again for answering me. Also, may I add, I think you are so beautiful in your avatar picture.

I have been having reflux for awhile and not able to have a fill due to the problem. I had my doctor request for removal to my insurance and they denied saying it was not medically necessary. Did you get your insurance to cover the removal and revise to the VSG?
If so, was it due to the same problems?
