Revision Information - RNY to ?

I am looking into getting a revision. I haven't decided which route to go. I want any and all information from people who have had a revision from RNY to anything. I had the RNY in 2001 and have gained almost all of my original weight back. I would love to hear about all RNY revision stories. If you or anyone you know has had a revision please help me with your information and knowledge.

I noticed most revisions from RNY are to DS. Has anyone had a revision from RNY to Lap-band? Any feedback is appreciated.

Also, thinking about getting a revision in Mexico because of the cost difference.

This is a standard answer (cos I don't have RNY but I've talked to other people on here that have)

1. Find out why your RNY isn't working. Pouch stretch, stoma stretch, not enough malabsorbtion or technical fault
2. Talk to your RNY surgeon or another one you trust or a good revision surgeon
3. Consider
- stomaphyx, rose, restore (endoscopic procedures to shrink stuff) but these are experimental and have mixed reviews
- pouch resizing and/or changing your intestines to an extended RNY- surgically improving on what you already have
- band over pouch - only helpful if the size of your pouch is the problem, and even then I couldn't recommend a band to anyone
- reversing your RNY and giving you the sleeve stomach and duodenal switch for the DS

If you find out what's wrong, it might narrow down your solutions at least! I'd suggest you then post on the specialist (DS, sleeve, eRNY) boards for info about how to live with each. Good luck

DS revision from failed lapband

Many insurances aren't covering the stomaphyx or what that is called right now because it is still considered 'experiemental'. it has only been on the market 2-3 years i think.

from rny to ds is a possibility. but understand the rny cut off the part that would have been the ds. so if you go from rny to that it has to be built. also i have heard many women complain with the ds of having unpredictable bowel loss and diarhea and very stinky odorous diarhea. i wouldn't want to be shopping at the mall when i lost control. i would die.

the rny to the lap band is pretty reasonable but the difficulty with the lap band is that it is very very restrictive. the opening is less than the size of a dime and the pouch is about 2-3 ounzes. you must eat very very very little portion and they must be very very well chewed to pass through that dime sized opening. if it doesn't get through you will vomit like hell and be miserable. the lap is probably the strictest i have come across. there is no leaway like with a rny where it is your own skin that is restricted and thus has some give to it. the band is a device and it is not give. you must cooperate with it 100% or you will be sooooo miserable.

so ... having said that ... yes, revisions can and do work but each has its issues to deal with.

wishing you the best.

I had the DS 7 years ago. I have slowly regained 50 pounds back of almost the 90 lost.
My problem was my large appetite. After lotsof research and two bariatric doctors, I had the Lap Band done last Friday (with Dr Ortiz in Mexico). The Lap band revision gets a lot of critisism because most of the people on this revision board are revising their Lap Band to gastric bypass. I think the post above "figure out why" is an excellent suggestion on a place to start. This is what I did. It was simply my appetite, bad habits and my pouch streched back out.
I feel the Lap Band is giving me a second chance. It will help me control my appetite and change my habits, ie, eating too much, too often and too fast.

Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

Um, if you had a "pouch" you didn't actually have a DS.

What ever happend to "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all"

I know what kind of surgery I paid 25k for...DS!
My choice of word was pouch instead of stomach.

geez louise!

The problem is, I feel it's very important to be informed before you go into any WLS, and even MORE important if you are going to be giving info to others. The fact that you think the DS has a pouch is a red flag, whether you just don't have good info, or maybe don't actually have a DS (and with less than 24 hours posting history and nothing in your profile, I think it's the latter) but either way, you need more info before you pass any along to others.
The RNY has a pouch. The DS stomach is not referred to as a pouch.

Why on earth would I lie about having a failed DS??? It is something I am not proud of because the failed part is my own doing.
The lack of history on this board is simply because I just decided about 1 month ago to have a revision to a Lap Band. Feel free to go to lapbandforum.com and look me up as Jarvis123, you will see in the posts this week that I am speaking with other patients I met in Mexico last week during my surgery.
Why I would even bother with someone like you I don't know. This is suppose to be for supoort, not critisism........Why don't you try and be nice, it makes life a lot better!

I have never read about a DSer having loss of bowel control. Typically, bowel movements are less solid (often described as "pudding-like" in consistency), but are NOT urgent nor explosive like diarrhea. If diarrhea does occur (which is NOT the case for most DSers), it is typically easily corrected/controlled by diet modifications, probiotics, or a short round of antibiotics (Flagyl).

Oh, and everyone's **** stinks, not just DSers'

Glad to hear someone post positively about the lap band here on this forum.

there are many people nowadays who get a revision from rny to a lap band. on other forums the 'revisional' lap band is praised highly and people experience much success with it.

i talked to my doctor about so many 'failures' stated here on the forum and he told me: the band works, the rny works, etc etc. it is up to the individual to do their part. if they don't - and they must do their part for the rest of their lives - they will fail.

knowing this forum as i do - each time i post something regarding individuals being reponsible for the success of their wls i get a lot of 'hate' bashing back. it is interesting to watch. makes my day. LOL (laugh out loud)
