What are some of the reasons they do an endoscopy?  When will insurance cover it?  thanks daisy

Just so they can see what's going on.

I've had one done to see what size my pouch and stoma is.  I've heard of them doing it to see what damage a pork chop bone did to my ex'MIL's throat.    To look for ulcers.  There are many many reasons.  Heck, there's a lady on the DS board that had one done, and the doc found a stitcher (sp????) and was able to dialte it right then with the endoscopy.

It's just a tool they use to see inside you.

Hope this helps!

In doing an endoscopy a small miniscule biopsy is taken of the lining of the stomach. It is then analyzed to find out what has been going into your stomach. Alcohol, drugs? In addition to that, as the previous post said, the size of the stoma is also checked, etc, etc. Practical things.

The upper g.i. tells what size pouch you have among other things.

It is all standard pre-op testing. Nothing to be worried about. Simple.

And yes, generally speaking, insurance covers it.
