Just wanted to introduce myself!

I'm new to this site.  I had a lap-band in 2004 and was self-pay.  I wanted it so badly that I paid $14,000 for it and went with the doctor willing to do it the quickest.  I lost some weight (from 245 to 185) but I was miserable.  For almost 2 years, I vomited 5-10 times a day, had severe reflux and was just miserable.  I lived on almost complete liquid diet.  I finally had my band removed in January 2007.  Some of the problems were mine, but much of my problems were from a bad doctor that was very inexperienced, no follow up and I was his first "unassisted" lap-band ever.  My surgeon that removed it said it wasn't "slipped" just improperly placed.

Since then, I gained 90 pounds....how the hell does one gain 90 pounds in less than 2 years????  But I did it....boy I'm so proud

With my husband's new job, we have great insurance that covers bariatric surgery.  I finally decided that I want to have the RNY.  I'm going for testing (EGD, Upper GI, Psych consult, Nut consult and doctor consult - all in two days) on January 14 and 15.  I can't wait.  I'm having medical issues (high blood pressure, heel spurs, high cholesterol, and more) that I realize that this weight is now not just something to do for vanity, but to save my life.  I have to go to a specialist at the Cleveland Clinic as the local doctors won't touch a revision.  That's fine with me, because this time I want the best surgeon available.

Anyway, I'm glad to be here and look forward to getting to know other folks going through similar situations!!

Welcome!  I also had the lap band done in 2005, lost 70 pounds and gained it all back in less than 2 years.  My band was also improperly placed.  I had the band removed on 10-15-08 and had the vertical sleeve done.  I am doing great and look forward to my new life!  This time it is done right and I will follow the rules.

Please check out the DS.  With the vomiting and reflux you had with the band, you can have the same with the RNY.  You might not be a good fit with a pouch.

Welcome to the forum.

Sorry to hear of your bad experience. Glad you are able to get a revision. That will be so wonderful for you.

My first surgery was an open rny. i had great success with it for a very long time and lost 130 pounds. i would highly recommend it.

i am having a revision now from it but it is a result of my own undoings in working with the rny.

good luck to you.
