I just got off the phone with the office of a WLS surgeon here in Kansas City where I now live and was told a revision is approx 30k....my RYN was only 21k.

Does that sound like the right price for a self pay?

Seems a lot to me - we had a discussion on the DS board and there were cheaper surgeons than that for RNY to DS revisions, which involve more work than what you want - tricky bits of work on your stomach and replumbing your intestines as well.

Might be worth shopping around I'm guessing, but for revisions you might have to look further afield, its a bit more specialist

You need to check around, I am sure you have a lot of great Dr's in your area, also really check into legal assistance to see if you can get ins to pay , If you have mechanical failure - Staple line  disruption it may be in your best interest. A friend hired one for the same issue  and got her approval.  range of fee is  400- 1500   *****eaper than  paying out of pocket for a revision!

Hi Gina,

Thanks so much for the info...I am going to look into that because I certainly do not have the money to pay for a revision.

Take care!

Hi,

Can you tell me where you went in Mexcio, who your Dr was and what is the cost?

I had a HORRIBLE exp with my plastics did them in Juarez Mx and got an infection ended up septic and literally almost dead.  I am not blaming the surgeon in Mexico for the infection I know that is a risk of surgey what so horrible is that I spent almost 12 hours in a US er room my blood pressure went to down to 68/40 while they tried to find a Dr. who would admit me, no one wanted to take me on as a patient because I had it done in MX...the er staff treated me like I had done in the back seat of a van somewhere in an alley.  I did my plastics w a good Dr. at the best hospital in Juarez.  Needless to say it was a very scary expierence for both me and more so for my family who waited to see if I would make it through the night, I spent three months going to a wound care center and with home health care nurses, and required three additional surgeries.

AGAIN hear me please I am not knocking Mexico I lived on the border all my life and went there for all sorts of dental and medical work...it was the US hospital that treated me like crap when I was in a emergency situation.  I know live in Kansas City MO and would need to know that if I had a complication there would be a dr here would take me on.

I would love to hear about your exp in Mx and what your aftercare was like.

Thanks,
Melissa

Yes, infection is a huge risk in plastics regardless of who you go to, some procedures are more risky than others.

Many plastic surgeons won't take on ANY patient with problems when they didn't do the surgery.  Even if you would have had it done in the US you still would have a hard time finding a doctor that would take on the problems of someone else.  They don't want the liability of scarring and such due to infections and I can understand that.

I went to Aceves in Mexicali and I went back to him when I realized how bad bands are to live with.  I liked him a great deal.  I have a sleeve now so there is no aftercare needed.

It really depends on what type of revision you are looking for as to which doctor in MX.  There are a very small number of doctors in the US and MX that I would go to for a revision.  My insurance actually covers WLS and revisions but there was nobody on my ins plan that I trusted with my revision and I didn't have time to jump through hoops with my 2nd surgery anyway.   I really preferred going back to Aceves so that's what I did..

What kind of revision are you looking for?  Band after bypass?  ERNY?
