Hello everyone.  I had rny surgery in 2002 and overall lost 90 pounds.  I now have health issues that are serious.  I am going to make an appt. to see my surgeon and get information about any kind of help, reversal, another kind of surgery to stop the mal-absorption.  In Feb. of this year, I was feeling really bad, went to the Dr. and found out I was anemic.  Iron deficiency anemia, due to the mal-absorption.  I have iron i.v. therapy every month.  Was told by the Hematologist, that I will need this for the rest of my life.  Also, around March I noticed lots of heartburn.  I haven't had GERD since the surgery.  Found out after I had an endoscopy, that I have Barrettes esophagus due to chronic inflammation from gerd.  They took a biopsy, hopefully will get results tomorrow.  Now, the question.......these are complications that would call for some kind of reversal/or whatever surgery??  Does anyone have these problems.....?

Hi Gail,

I had an RNY in 2000 and since a short time after, I have had problems with amemia.  I was sent to a specialist who  keeps a close eye on me, but I have to take HUGE doses of Iron just to keep my levels up to somewhere near the lowest level or normal.  Right now, my Iron stores count is 12 and it should be 40.  It is all connected to the malabsorption issue.

I am having revision surgery next week.  I will be getting a lap band over my rny.  I, too, was concerned about the heartburn issue, as I have had to deal with that, too, sporadically.  My surgeon assures me that the heartburn issues following an are generated from a different place tha where the lap band will be.

Good luck and I hope that things get better for you.  Keep us posted!
