Does anyone know if taking a sleep aid prior to the night before surgery o.k.  I forgot to ask this question at my doctor's visit today.  I already know that I will be a bundle of nerves the night prior to surgery and I think a sleep aid will help me to relax and get a little sleep.  My surgery is in less than 10 days and I am already feeling a little anxious and nervous.  I know my doctor is competent but I'm nervous anytime I have to go under the knife. You never know what can happen (Murphy's law).  However, I do plan on a prayer prior to this surgery.

Hi Darnell, I don't believe you can take anything like that prior to surgery especially the night before. When I went for all of my pre-op testing I had to give them a list of all the meds I'm taking (which are none), but they want to know about everything that's in your system probably due to the anesthesia. But check with your doctor to see if it's safe for you. Good Luck with your up coming surgery......Tonya
