I'm been off the message boards while going through the lengthy( and depressing) appeal process. I had to jump through a lot of hoops and tests (bone density, colonoscopy, sleep apnea, abdominal ultrasound, etc.) but I got the letter today---the DS by Dr. Elariny has been APPROVED!!!!!  :-)  Because of my work situation, I may not be able to do it until late June, but I am VERY happy I fought the insurance company and won!  Thank you for all your support; I will be posting on the boards again soon!

Awesome job Pat, you went the extra mile and made it to the finish line.  Just wait until you get that DS and you'll be sliding down that loser's like the rest of us.   P.s. I miss VA Beach!  I use to live there.

I MY DS!!!

Virginia, Congratulations!  At least now you know your fight was not in vain.  By the way didn't you have the stomaphx procedure?  If so what were the results?  I'm still toying with that idea.

darnell239:  Thanks!  Yes, I self-paid for the stomaphyx procedure last summer and it did NOT work for me. I think if you only have a minimal amount of weight to lose, it may be a good option since it's non-invasive and less risky than other surgeries. But I have over 100 lbs. to lose...I was disappointed in the procedure, so check out other patients' results before deciding.

Can you tell me what type of insurance you have? I'm just beginning to try for a revision and I just had surgery about a year ago. I stopped losing weight after 6 months. Also do you mind telling me what happened with you and what was your reasons for having the revision?

Monique, I have Sentara Optima HMO through the school system in Virginia Beach, VA. They at first denied my request because Dr. Elariny was out of network. I had to do a lot of documentation, letters, tests, but then they approved it. Never give up after a first denial.  Good luck. Pat
