Thank you for posting this -- with so few responses, it is very difficult to determine whether it has or will be overall successful -- I'm scheduled for mine on Oct 23 with Dr Garber. Will be self-pay since insurance (Aetna) has already denied me. I am so hoping that this is the answer I'm looking for since my stoma is very large. I am very nervous, not about the procedure, but about whether I will be able to lose the 40 lbs that I put on in the last 18 months!
Pray for me.
Hugs,
Nannette

Hi Nannette,
I will try to get more responses over the next few weeks. I have my stompahyx procedure today at 10am Pacific time. There was only one response from a patient of Dr Garbers. I can get you more information later. The key thing I saw in the survey was that only half of the people said they were satisfied or verfy satisfied. I shared the information with my surgeon Friday and showed him that those were satisfied weren't necessarily the ones who lost the most, but the ones who felt the most restriction. Like you, I have an enlarged stoma, but my pouch is not significantly stretched. I just want the hunger to go away. I'd like to lose 40 lbs to get back to my lowest post- RNY weight, but there's another 30-60 more to lose if I can. I'm 5'10 with a heavy frame, so I'm just looking to be healthy, not small.
Anyway, there should be more information the next few weeks. Monica who posts on here is having hers done in about an hour by the same surgeon as me. A couple others I know had it last week. In total, there have only been about 15 people who have publically mentioned on here that they have had the procedure. I hope that helps a little.
I hope we can all be praying for eachother. This is a very frustrating time.

Thanks for responding Shelly -- Good luck today and hope you have an easy recovery! You and I sound very much alike with the enlarged stoma but not overly stretched pouch. Like you, I would like to lose 40 pounds to get back to my lowest post-RNY weight, but would like to make it 50 pounds.
Keep us posted --
Hugs,
Nannette

I think the survey is wonderful. It's just that this procedure is so new. I had my stomaphyx last Thursday and I'm doing very well....but I don't want to answer the survey for 3 or 4 more weeks.....until I KNOW how I feel about it and the initial results. Anything else would be unfair. Good luck with your surgery. It's really not that bad! Lorri
