Topic: RE: Fajitas
I generally consider foods to fall in 3 categories:
Safe: which has things like the onions, peppers, and mushrooms. Nobody ever got obese eating these so I never keep track.
Caution: Foods that are calorically dense or easy to eat too much : Chicken, bread, potato, corn, cheese, etc. These are things and should be measured.
Dangerous: The foods that "make you fat" like oils, sweets, nuts, cream, and even guacamole (being mostly fat). Measured, logged, and consumed in appropriate amounts.
The thing I remember about the shakes was the doctor said "find one you like" so I did. Right after surgery I realized that there is a big difference between like and "like enough to have 3 times a day" Syntrax Nectar was my savior.

My three year old eats pretty much anything I eat...I make things that are fun and that he can sort of help with...I make tortilla pizzas and he helps with the toppings..I grill chicken and I shred mine but I cut his in chunks so he can still dip it in Ketchup! He is a good veggie eater so I use that to my advantage also :)
Topic: RE: I can eat PASTA again!
I use them in just about anything I would use pasta in...tonight I used the spaghetti ones and added the frozen broccoli with cheese sauce and it made an awesome dinner!
Topic: Chili
My dietician allows 5 oz of lean meat and 2 servings of low starchy vegetables, plus 1 serving fruit and 1 serving fat.
I created this chili recipe using my food list as a guide.
5 oz lean ground turkey seasoned
1 cup tomato sauce
On my plan I can use 4 oz meat and add 1 oz of lowfat cheese and I can also add 1 T low fat sour cream as a freebie.
This easy recipe of chili for one works out great and I can adjust the meat portion as my diet is adjusted along the way.

Topic: Lettuce Wraps using broccoli slaw and maybe bean sprouts
Before starting this journey my husband and I would use a package of broccoli slaw and cook it up with diced boneless skinless chicken breast or ground turkey. We would add asian seasonings and either use the resulting filling in eggrolls or lettuce wraps.
Now I have to measure carefully but I can use 3 to 5 oz of meat for dinner with a cup of the cooked and seasoned broccoli slaw mixture in lettuce wraps as the main part of my meal.

Topic: Fajitas
I've been at my new pre-op diet journey since June 2, 2011. I have to admit that I'm getting tired of the protein shakes and bars already but I used my first bundle from Weight Wise and I get to choose different flavors this next go round.
Tonight I had chicken fajitas. Ok not in the complete traditional sense but I had a 5 oz skinless chicken breast that we had previously grilled vacuum packed and frozen.
Using no fat cooking spray we sauteed up some red onion, green and red peppers and a few mushrooms to make up my 2 servings of veggies. Then we cut the chicken breast into strips and added it to the pan. I made guacamole from 1 avocado and 1/4 salsa with a teaspoon of lime. According to my food list I can have 1/4 guacamoli (although I'm not sure my little recipe fit the bill. I will ask my dietician.)
Once the veggies and chicken were heated through and seasoned we put it on the plate with my 1/4 guacamoli for my fat and 1 T lowfat sour cream (freebie).
This was really a great to get those flavors I was missing.

Topic: kid friendly post wls meal plan?
Hi all,
can anyone that is post op share what kinds of meal plans they use so that both they and their kids can eat the same stuff? I'm still pre-op and this seems like such a daunting task.
Thanks,
Sandy

Bonnie is sooo right. Your tastes will change dramatically. I used to love bread & pasta. Can't tolerate them now. I used to love grilled sandwiches. Nada. Cannot even think of eating fried foods like french fries, chicken, etc even though I ate them a lot before WLS. Go with the flow. Trust your body. Change your lifestyle to enhance your new tool. WLS is NOT the only answer but it is a wonderful starting point as long as you are willing to WORK HARD at gaining control of your life & your weight. The results, if you are willing to work at them, are incredible and well worth it. Feeling alive for the first time in 25 years:-)

I myself have never been a big meat eater either and I find that after having this surgery 6 months ago what I tolerate most is seafood.... Like shrimp and scallops.... I can also eat deli thin sliced turkey and ham... and I can eat chicken that has some sort of sauce with it... You'll also notice that after having this surgery your palette will change quite a bit... things you liked before you may not like after.... or you may find yourself being a little more adventurous when it comes to trying out different cuisines now... like me! lol
Anyhow good luck with your journey!
