Everyone that's had WLS is either trying to maintain, lose, etc... At this point I just want to live. I won't get into a lot of details but my surgery and post-op have been riddled with complications. I am 6 months out and already down 126 pounds. I have such bad nausea still take three anti-nausea medications daily on top of carafate and prilosec and vitamins galore. I actually joined a campaign to legalize medical marijuana in the state I live in because at this point I will try anything if it makes me able to eat or even just hold down my food. I have a heart arrhythmia due to low pottasssium and so forth. I was on TPN and after getting off of it my tastes changed....not sure if it was the surgery or the TPN but I cannot stand the taste of any protein powder and very few milk products, red meat makes me ill, and I am sick to death of grilled chicken, turkey, peanut butter, and saltine crackers. I love greek yogurt but it give me indigestion and after my last EGD if my ulcers don't improve I will have to have surgery on my esphogus. To top things off my surgeon moved to another state my new doctor is over two hours away and I don't feel good enough to make that drive. So, I haven't seen a surgeon since July. I saw my gastrointernologist for the last EGD, my PCM, and a heart doctor but none of them really know what to do with me other then throw vitamins and pills at me.

Anyhow, I will take any and all suggestions recipes whatever you've got I will try it. I have tried making protein ice cream, cookies, you name it. Splenda makes me dump so I can only use raw stevia at this point. I have tried several GNC proteins, protein shots, bars, Nectar, EAS, Bariatric Advantage, Isopure, and so many others I have lost count. I can't eat eggs or egg whites as they make me ill as well. I haven't tried them in a recipe other then an egg bake so I don't know if it is the eggs by themselves or if I can tolerate them as a part of a recipe. Light cheese takes hours for me to digest and milk tastes rotten to me. With that in mind I will take any and all suggestions as I am desperate to find something different to eat as well as get more proteint. I do not have the energy to hardly do anything. I actually had better stamina 126 pounds heavier.

Thank you for taking the time to read my long post and thank you in advance for suggestions/recipes.

I got the ingredients this evening and my oldest is going to help me make them in the morning and be my official taste tester. He is pretty picky so I figure if he likes them then I will too and it is just a matter of holding them down.

Yeah, I'm sorry about all your complications.  Hopefully you can keep it down.

a couple of things, 1. the yogurt has milk in it, post op most people are lactose intolerant.. BAD thing to eat and the symptoms you are having sound exactly like reactions to the milk product

2. you also sound like you might have a stricture... have you had them do an endoscopy? i also had all those things post op and was loosing 16+ lbs a week right off, couldnt eat, pain, vomiting nausea etc, they fixed that and poof the next day (literally) i was better, even if they dont think its that it might help to have them take a look and see whats going on

3. your tastes change big time post op, so i would put a lot of the taste change on that...

as for sugars even like splenda making you dumb thats normal, i have other post-op friends who dump from things as simple as the sugar in baked beans, or crystal light... its very hard BUT that and the lactose intolerance can get better after a year or so (not always but often), i was lactose intolerant for about 5 months...

your stamina is shot becuase of surgery and because your body is going through hell withOUT all the complications... so the complications make it worse... i would suggest staying away from ANY dairy (cottage cheese, eggs, milk, cheese, yogurt etc) you can make jello and puddings from mixes and put the powdered sugar IN the mix... that works really well (did that a lot post op), make sure its sugar free mixes of course... and at this point if those are part of the problem it will take some time for the body to heal its self so patience... i also had to do the prevacid (you should be taking the ones that dissolve on your tounge), carafate (nasty chalky crap) etc... it was 100% stricture...

good luck

UGH...I'm sorry you are having so many issues.  I know you've tried a lot of protein powders, but have you attempted MAX protein?  EggFace uses it in all her recipes for protein shakes, etc.  I must say I had a hard time finding a protein powder I could stomach and that one was the ticket.

Also, have you tried protein fruit drinks or protein jello?  My surgeon had me on it before and after surgery and I still get it to supplement my food.  Well I did before falling horribly off the wagon, but that's another story.  It might be worth ordering a sampler to see what you can handle.  I know the protein fruit drinks and protein jellos weren't too bad.  The protein chicken broth was tolerable as well.  If your surgeon doesn't have an online store, let me know and I can send you mine from Grand Health Partners.  OR, maybe see if others here have websites they use that have these items.

You are your best advocate so keep pushing to find the answer that will get you better.

Please let us know how you're doing.

All the best,

Melinda

I went thru so much of what you are going thru. I am lactose intolerant. Once I discovered that it changed my world. I can now pick foods that do not make me nauseaus and i'm much happier. I do still eat yogurt. I actually make yogurt every week and it turns out so great. I also use lactose milk in everything. Either that or coconut milk. That is my new discovery. It seems to work well for things that are sweet but not so well for savory things.

Everyone is different. Even if you are lactose intolerant there are things you may tolerate that others can't. You have to find what works for you. We are all different.

Well, I am still alive. Not doing much better on the protein front. My latest labs showed protein level at .1 and I have more vitamin deficiencies I am dealing with now and they added another anti-nausea medication. They did find me a surgeon (local this time) since my surgeon moved out of state. I can't help but think he moved because of me lol. I have had so many complications maybe he thought I was going to sue him. I am also in physical therapy which is helping. I keep trying new foods with protein one bite at a time somedays. I have a weird system in place that works for now but probably isn't the best habit to get into but it has helped slow my weight loss. Whatever meat I prepare for the family at dinner I have a bit or two of then save a small portion and right before I go to bed I eat a smaller portion of the meat then go right to sleep. I figure if I am asleep it won't make my pouch hurt and I will not be as nauseated and that seems to work. I am still on my quest for a protein shake, drink, bar, etc... I loved the peanut butter balls but cannot eat a whole one; the peanut butter gets stuck in my throat for a long time. I am sure I have a stricture again or it is the ulcers in my esophogus giving me so much trouble. I cannot wait to see my new surgeon on Monday. I probably am lactose intolerant because I could barely take in milk products prior to the surgerybut at least then I still liked the taste. I have never heard of protein chicken broth or jello where do you get that or how do you make it? Thank you for all the advice and help. It is hard to talk to anyone outside of OH. My mom either worries about me to the point she is yelling at me, my husband is deployed so I do not want to worry him so I don't say much. One of my sisters treats me like a leper and I think it is partially due to some jealousy that I have lost weight. I get it from some of my friends to....I wasn't prepared for that part. I still have about 24 pounds to go before I hit the top of the "normal" BMI range and I have a few friends that are heavier telling me I look like I am wasting away but I am not. Since the surgery I have shrunk a half an inch so I am five-seven and a half weighing in at 174 pounds I wear a size 9/10 or 11/12 depending on the jeans and a size large shirt plus I have a medium to large frame. To me that is not "wasting" away. I am doing everything I can think of to get the nutrition I need, going to physical therapy, and keeping in touch with all my doctors and keeping my appointments. Losing weight is not on the top of my priorities list but I eventually would like to be in the normal BMI range and be healthy doing it. To me that is not over doing it. Have any of you had friends or family members whose attitude towards you changed since you had WLS? Losing weight has not changed me fundamentally as a person; if anything it has made me a better person. With everything I have gone through my faith in God has been restored, I have become more conscience of my body and proper nutrition which goes into what I feed my kids, I no longer take simple things for granted, and I know longer hide away in my home because of low self esteem. I feel better about myself as a person and now I am just trying to get as healthy as I can then worry about those last few pounds later. I wish they had a buddy program for WLS patients lol....that way I would have someone local to visit with, attempt workouts, and lunches with etc.....

Let me start out by saying I am so sorry you have had a difficult time.
At this point, does anything sound good to you food wise? I mean I wouldn't even think about dietary restrictions...I would just eat what sounds good and like you can keep it down. At some point you have to think that you are just not getting much of anything nutrition-wise, so something is better than nothing.
You could do a protien shake made with water and add fruit to it? like a smoothie? just do small shots of it.
I also go to restaurants sometimes and order something that sounds good but I pick it apart and just eat what I can. Its better than not eating or keeping stuff down.
I wish I had better suggestions. Can you do the splenda 1/2 AND 1/2? I can tolerate that better than the regular splenda. Just a thought.
Good luck and I hope things improve.

I agree. Is there something you are hungry for? it'll help you to get it down and digested and do you some good. Maybe fried chicken? If so i'd make some mashed potaotes and gravy to go with it. Bear in mind I eat low carb so potatoes aren't in my meal plan at all...lol. After eating a satisfying meal I'd sit down with you and discuss other meal options.

I am going with this thru my daughter in law. she is pregnant and due in February. She is milking it for all its worth...lol. I've been there and one that. Of course things are stressful for her and my son, her husband. But life is tough, they are still young and learning that.
