Help Me Impress a Man!

I just started dating an awesome guy, and really want him to just fall head-over-heels, so I need to tempt his tummy.  I plan to cook him dinner this week, and don't know what to cook!  I was told steak or pot roast, but I'm not the best cook, so I need suggestions and recipes!  It doesn't necessarily need to be bariatric-friendly, as I will only have a few bites, and then send the leftovers home with him.  Suggestions?

Well, as a guy, I would be impressed with the pot roast.  There are a lot of recipe sites out there as well as cook books.  I would use a crock-pot as it will make the meat super moist as well as the veggies.  I can't think of many guys who wouldn't enjoy a good home-cooked meal.  Good luck!

My first meal that I cooked for my now husband was home made lasagna. So easy to make,

Jarred spaghetti sauce of your choice (seasoned well with mrs dash, garlic, etc)
1 small can tomato paste (to thicken sauce)
1 lb ground beef or turkey mixed in with sauce
1 package lasagna noodles (boiled el dente. They'll soften a little as you bake them)
half a block mozzeralla cheese
Ricotta cheese (I use cream cheese instead since I'm not a fan of ricotta and it's a HUUUUGE hit)

in lasagna sized baking dish layer noodles, globs of meat sauce, dollops of cream cheese (or ricotta). Then repeat, noodles, meat sauce, cream cheese, mozzarella, repeat. Usually 3-4 layers ending with cheese on top.

Bake for 30 minutes covered with foil on 325. Add a nice green salad, and a hunk of garlic bread for an AMAZING and easy to make dinner that will leave him wanting more.
Good luck! Let us know what you decide to do :)

Lasagna is a great idea!  Here is another that never fails to impress!

Skinless Boneless Chicken Breasts Stuffed with Goat Cheese and Roasted Red Peppers.

I marinate the chicken breasts in Sundried Tomato and Oregano salad dressing.  When ready to cook...I slice the chicken breasts in half (not all the way through tho) so that there is a top and bottom.  In the middle I slather a bunch of creamy goat cheese and roasted red peppers.  Fold the flap back over and secure with some toothpicks.  Bake.  As it is baking I will baste some more of the salad dressing on top.  SOOOOO YUMMY!  And it looks fancy too so people think you put a lot of work into it but it is really sooo simple!  I usually serve with scallop potatoes or hashbrown casserole and some kind of veg.....arparagus or something!

Good luck with your cooking night!  Sounds like you will have fun!

As a foodie, I would suggest you avoid Pot Roast.  It's too easy to screw up and there is plenty of opportunity to critique the meal:

Was the meat browned first or just plopped in a slow cooker?
Is the meat over or under cooked?
Are the vegetables that may have been cooked with the meat matching in doneness?
Is everything seasoned?

I think lasagne with a bagged side salad is better.  It's nearly impossible to screw that up especially if you use the Barilla No Boil Noodles.

Whatever you make, keep it consistent with your ability.  You'd hate to end up with a guy expecting Pot Roast every night but getting frozen pizza and PB&J instead.  Oh, and if things get burnt, ruined, etc.  Have a wardrobe malfunction or something; assuming he is a normal guy, food will no longer be on his mind.

I do Pot roast in the crock pot all the time...Fool proof. All I do is get a Rump Roast...chuck roast whatever you wanna call it and put it in the crock pot...put it in the night before you go to bed  or leave for work in the morning and turn the crock pot on high....use a fork and see if you can pull it apart easy and it should be done...you can cut you some onions, carrots, potatoes and whatever else you want and throw it in for another hour or so or however long it takes for the vegetables to cook. OOOOR you could do like me...and do it the simple way...get your meat half way done and throw you some onions in...about the last 30 minutes of cooking it...open cans of carrots...peas...and potatoes or whatever you like with it and fix a good cast iron skillet of corn bread to eat with it...YummO...if only I could eat the bread lol

Some of the simplest meals will go to a man's heart via his stomach. Chicken and noodles - My husband's favorite. 4-5 chicken thighs (remove skin or use skinless & boneless). Cook in crock pot with with half pot of water and 3-4 chicken bullion cubes until meat falls apart (remove bones 1 per thigh, if necessary). Transfer juice and shredded chicken to a stove pot and bring to a boil. Add green beans for about 10 minutes then add 12-16 ounce bag of wide egg noodles. Coo****il noodles reached desired tenderness. You may need to add more water and bullion or some canned chicken broth as you want it to be juicy. I add spices like accent and pepper. Served with baked Grands biscuits. Yummy!

Another crock pot recipe is 15 bean soup with chicken. Soak beans overnight in cold water. Strain and rinse. Put chicken and beans in crock pot with enough water to well cover. Add 3-4 chicken bullion. Allow to cook on high for 6-7 hours. Separate chicken if not ffallen apart. Again I season with pepper and accent. Serve with rice and Grand's biscuits or sweet corn bread. Yummy again!

Chicken Parmesan is very simply as well. Use boneless, skinless thighs or breasts. Bake in oven or simmer on stove top in large covered pan. Add tomatoe sauce (jarred or homemade) when chicken is 1/2 way done. Top each piece with mozzarella cheese. Serve with twisty noodles tossed with Parmesan cheese and a salad. Sprinkle a little Parmesan on the chicken before serving.
