No Bake Protein Bars

1 jar natural peanut butter (smooth)

1 1/2-2 c. honey

3 c. uncooked Quaker oatmeal – old fashioned

1/2 c. chopped walnuts

1/2 c. raisins or cranberries

1/2 c. wheat bran or wheat germ

1/2 t. cinnamon

 2 1/4 c. chocolate whey protein powder

Heat peanut butter & honey on slow heat on stovetop to smooth consistency.  Once mixed, remove heat and then add the remaining ingredients. Make sure to add the protein powder last as the mixture gets a bit dry.  Spread mixture evenly into 13"x 9" pan for thicker bars or 11 x 14 pan for thinner bars and press down using waxed paper (I use the 11x14).  Slice into desired size bars and wrap each piece in plastic wrap.  Store in fridge or freezer.

150 calories, 6 grams of fat, 2 carbs, 15 grams of protein per square

I cant do nuts or dried fruit yet, so I left those out.  Also, I didnt have any wheat germ so I substituted ground flax seed in the same amount.  I had the original at my moms, and then my modified ones.  They are both awesome and are good source of protein.

Hi there, this sounds delicious, and I can't wait to try it...but how big is the jar of peanut butter?

To add to the above questions, not only need to know the size of the jar of peanut butter, but nutritional values are based on how many portions in the recipe.  Your instructions say to cut into desired size, but how many portions did you plug in to get those nutritional values.

It sounds delicious!  If you can let us know how much peanut butter I'll be trying this for sure.

Ack, SOOOO sorry about that.  I cut/paste this from an email and forgot to revise it.  LOL, I had those same questions myself.

I used a 16 oz jar of Smuckers Natural Creamy Peanut Butter.  Out of all the PB choices, this one seemed like a good choice.  Nothing icky in it.  Straight up peanuts.

Not sure how original recipe owner figured the nutrional value, but I know her bars were around the size of clif protein bars.  There might be a recipe program somewhere that could really figure it out.

In any case, they are fantastic!

While the recipes sounds interesting & is something I think I may play around with... instructions like "a jar of PB", "1 1/2 - 2 cups of honey" & " slice into desired size" there is no way to determine the nutritional value.

I'm going to work on this & run numbers through a recipe calculator.

I ran this through Spark People, and even making it 36 servings, the stats were not good (this was including nuts and craisins).  36 servings for a 9 x 13 pan sounds like they would be smaller than a Clif bar.

I used these ingredients:

Lorraine that would be fantastic!!  I am terrible when it comes to math, so I am not even going to attempt it.
I also used the 11 x 14 pan if that helps in any way

I am so glad that you liked them!!  My mom cuts them up, wraps in wax paper then freezes them.  They are ready to eat in just a short period of time.
