Believe it or not, plant them in a trench lying on it's side. They will grow upright. Also plant the roots deep, about 6-8 inches. I also use a liquid fish emulsion that you can spray on them which helps them allot while they are growing. I also use wire cages around them which you can get for about $2 a piece or less at Wal-Mart which last for years. Or you can make your own with fencing wire. Can't beat your own homegrown tomatoes.

I live in the desert, digging a hole here takes big machines!  Stuff doesn't grow well in rock. ;o)  I have to use planters.  I do have some that are deep enough to do as you suggest.  I'm going to try it.  As soon as these seeds dry out I will plant them.

Thanks!

These tomatoes are very cool looking, I've never seen anything like them.  I can't believe some idiot decided they needed changing through the years.

Try growing them in a 1 gallon milk jug.  Cut the bottom off, stick the plant in the neck of milk jug fill it up with good rich soil.  You'll have to figure out how to make it hang.  you have the open bottom to water it and the tomatoes will grow up.
