Portion Size Vent!

What ever happened to reasonable portions? I realize we live in a world of super sizing at the drive up, but what about in homemade foods? I found a recipe today that I thought would be a great one for me. The portion size just blew me away. The recipe calls for twelve 6 ounce boneless pork chops. I thought that meant twelve servings. At the very end it says it is six servings. That 12 ounces of pork for each person! To feed my family and still have leftovers I can halve this recipe. This is the recipe copied exactly from the e-mail:

MARINATED & GRILLED BONELESS PORK CHOPS

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

INGREDIENTS:
12 6-ounce boneless center-cut pork chops
3/4 cup apple juice
3/4 cup honey
6 tablespoons soy sauce
3 tablespoons dry sherry
6 cloves garlic, minced

DIRECTIONS:
Combine all ingredients except pork chops. Reserve a small
amount of marinade for basting and pour the rest over pork
chops in a large Ziplock bag and place in the refrigerator
for 4-24 hours. Remove chops from marinade. Grill pork five
inches from heat source 12-15 minutes, turning once, to an
internal temperature of 155-160F. Baste occasionally with
reserved marinade.

Yield: 6 Servings (2 chops each)

I'm going to try this recipe out cause I love pork and it agrees with me. I will be cutting back on the honey (too sweet), might add some ginger and definately not eating 12 ounces.

Yup that is crazy! But we all know, or have heard of steakhouses that pride themselves on having HUMONGOUS steaks and will reward a person (with more food) for finishing off the monster steak.

so ridiculous.... and the thought of food eating contests is revolting!

BUT your recipe does sound good... right now I couldn't even eat 1 full pork chop. have half now- half later...

such a wonderful new experience for me!

There is a recipe site online that allows for changes in servings and I often half the recipe that is meant for four people and it feeds my family of four.  I figure the 7 year old and I eat one serving and my husband and 11 year old eat 1.5 servings.  I make sure there is a fresh or steamed veggie and a complex carb for my growing girls.  The husband and I are getting older and he is finding that he needs smaller portions as he ages himself.  Don't get me wrong, we love food but honestly as my husband and I get healthier and older the less food plays an entertaining part in our lives and the less we want it to be an entertaining part of our childrens' lives.
