Looking for low cal / high protein ideas please
Im trying to cut my calories to 1000 a day (per dr) and at least 65 grams of protein.
I just cant figure how to get that much protein in at only 1000 calories. Right now, Ive got the Weight Control oatmeal for breakfast (7 grams protein, 160 calories) Tuna for lunch and fish for dinner....but that will get OLD in a hurry.
I know good snacks would be lite cheese, yogurt maybe. Id like to try the greek yogurt, but how do I make it taste better with few calories?
Good luck to you!
Hope that helps

Or you could make some chili using ground turkey/ and or ground sirloin...Sometimes I put both in mine...Plus lots of black beans, kidney, and pinto...
Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only TRUE FRIENDS will leave footprints in your heart...And may that friendship have such a ONENESS that when one weeps the other will taste salt...Friends are like balloons ; once you let them go you can't get them back....So I'm going to tie you to my heart so I never lose you.
1. Cottage cheese is an excellent and low fat way to get alot of protein in as well as the protein drinks.
2. I use Matrix Hot choclate protein drink (yes, even in the summer) and mix it with skim milk powder instead of water..that double the protein count to almost 30 grams protein/drink.
3. Also I buy extra lean slices of ham or roast beef or turkey and roll each slice around a "spear" of hard cheese...again, extra protein.
4. I also make home made high protein soup:
2 pounds extra lean ground beef or chicken/turkey - crumbled in a big soup pot & fill with broth
1 cup pearl barley (I buy at Bulk Barn)
1 cup dried vegetable flakes (Bulk Barn)
1 cup of mixed dried beans (Bulk Barn)
add minced garlic, minced onion and summer savoury to taste
also add sea salt and fresh ground pepper
also 1/4 cup Montreal steak spice
Simmer for several hours.
Even better after the first day when the flavours get to blend.
This soup is very high in protein and fibre. Cool overnight in the fridge then carefully remove the congealed fat off the top and discard (my cats love it!) Enjoy!
For me, I use about 1 1/2 cups of soup for a meal.( dont forget that Im 3 1/2 years out so I have the pouch room).
I make my soup for the week so I used a huge cooking pot...neither of my crockpots are bog enough. AS the barley. veggies and beans rehydrate, the take up alot of room and I keep having to add broth or water.
There's enough soup then to feed me for a week, extra for my husbamd and two sons and also enough to take a huge bowl of it to my almost-90yrs old Mom .

the container is 80 calories. I add 1tbsp honey 60 cals, 2 packets splenda 0 calories and 1 cup of Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal 100 calories.
This comes to 240 calories and between the yogurt and cereal is 18 grams of protein!! The yogurt has 15 grams and the cereal is 5 grams.
