Granola/Protein Bars anyone??
I am looking for a simple granola bar/protein bar recipe.
I found one in a magazine awhile ago and now I can't find it!
I also checked out the recipe site here and went back several months and don't see anything.
So if anyone out there has a simple, with few ingredients recipe send it my way.
Thanks,
Lisa
The ones I make are very simple. I don't measure things precisely, so you just add things until you have everything you want.
Ingredients:
Rolled Oats (I coursely grind them in food chopper so they aren't so big) About 2 cups
Flax Seeds (dark or golden both are delicious!) About 1/4 cup
Wheat Germ About 1/4 cup
Spelt Flour About 1/4 cup
Powdered Milk About 1 cup
3-4 scoops unflavored protein powder (I use Any Whey)
3-4 packets Splenda
This is the base for my recipes then I add the following for some of my different flavors:
Almond Joy: Toasted unsweetened coconut, chopped up Sugar-Free Dove Dark Chocolate (so smooth and creamy!), Toasted Almond Slivers. Then add chocolate and coconut sugar-free Torani syrup to moisten and press into a cake pan (sprayed with canola oil cooking spray). Refrigerate until set and dump out, cut into servings as big as you like.
Vanilla Cranberry Almond: Toasted Almond Slivers, dried cranberries. Add French Vanilla or Vanilla Bean Torani sugar-free syrup until moist and follow the rest above.
White chocolate raspberry: Chopped up sugar-free white chocolate bars, toasted almond slivers. Add raspberry sugar-free torani syrup to until moist and follow the rest above.
White chocolate cranberry: Chopped up sugar-free white chocolate bars, toasted almond slivers, Dried cranberries. Add white chocolate sugar-free torani syrup until moist and follow the rest above.
I like to cut these into average size granola bars and put them into snack size ziplock bags. Keep them in the refrigerator or freezer because they WILL mold after about a week (I found out the hard way). They are awesome to grab on the go or keep one in your purse when you are running errands. My daughter loves them too, she is always asking for one of mommy's protein bars!

I hope you like them. This is a good base and then you can do anything you want with them. If you are looking for the Any Whey protein powder, the cheapest place I've found it is at www.cheapvitamins.com it's about $40 for 2 lb. If you don't find the Torani syrups anywhere like I have trouble with since I live in a small town I buy mine at World Market, about $6.50 a bottle, when I go to Phoenix or order them online at www.lollicup.com about $8 a bottle if I need them fast and can't make it the 200 miles to Phoenix. Walmart carries your basic flavors, but I've never found anything more than the vanilla, hazelnut and raspberry. I hope you enjoy and if you come up with any new flavors let me know!
