I know where your hubby is coming from. The apple crisp in school was the best. I have tried myself to make it, but it is never the same.......I wish I could help you.

Make the topping with butter, white flour and sugar.

DISCLAMER---NOT POUCH FRIENDLY!!!

something i make for my family is what we all call apple crisp...it's really apple dump cake but simple as heck and really yummy (back when I could eat it)  you just take canned apple pie filling and dump 2 or 3 cans in the bottom of a cake pan then top it with dry yellow cake mix---just right out of the box---then you take two sticks of butter and slice them and lay them evenly on top of the cake mix.  Bake on 350 for 1 hour and 15 mins---is delicious!!! and easy as heck

Try the recipe on the back of the brown sugar splenda bag.  It has a strudel like topping that it makes.  When I make if for family and friends, they have no idea it is low sugar!

Good Luck!

Hi!  Here is a recipe I make a lot for my husband (no surgery) and myself (1-year post-op).  It makes a large apple crisp.  I usually half the recipe so that there aren't any leftovers.   I also bake mine in a white Corning Ware casserole dish on my gas BBQ grill so that I don't heat up the house.

2-3 Apples
1/4 C butter, melted
1/4 C flour (lately I've been using Trader Joe's multigrain pancake mix)
3/4 C quick-cooking oats
3/4 C Splenda brown sugar blend

Peal and dice up 2-3 apples into 1 inch cubes and place in your baking dish.

In a small bowl mix the remaining four ingredients with a for****il well mixed.  Use the oat mix to make a layer over the fruit.  Bake at 375 degrees for 30-45 minutes ****il apples are soft when poked with a fork---bigger apple pieces take longer to cook).

This recipe calls for apples but it is also good when you mix apples with raisins, cranberries, fresh strawberries, or other berries.

Hope you all enjoy this!

You could try the Fiber One pancake mix.  I love it!

this is the best apple crisp ever!!  I'm not sure if the member is still around, but its from Dame Tooters (she use to post on the main board).  I make it every fall maybe 4 or 5 times. its great and people dont even know its  sf!  add a little sf whipped cream on top for an ala mode twist yummmm

Apple Crisp
4 cups apples, peeled, cored and sliced (Recommend: Granny Smiths or Golden Delicious)
1/3 cup Splenda
1 tablespoon Pancake Mix
1 teaspoon Cinnamon
1/2 cup Splenda Brown Sugar
3/4 cup rolled Oats
1/4 cup Krusteaz Pancake Mix
1/3 cup butter, melted
Mix together 1/3 cup Splenda, 1 tablespoon Pancake Mix, and cinnamon.   Add apple slices and toss to coat.  Spread out in buttered baking dish.    Combine brown sugar, oats, remaining Krusteaz Pancake Mix, and butter.  Crumble over apple mixture and bake at 350 degrees F. for 30 minutes.   This is great by itself or served over no-sugar-added vanilla ice cream. Variations:  Use equal amount of Pears instead of apples; use 1/2 apples and 1/2 pears and 1/2 tsp. nutmeg; use 3 cups peeled, pitted and cubed peaches instead of apples
