I'm looking for recipes I can make in my crockpot after my surgery.
My surgery is Sept. 1st, so I'm getting my self ready as much as I can. I love to cook for my family, but my boys are 16 and 19, and usually aren't home a lot. I like to make food in my crock pot, so that way it's done and ready for when they are home. I want to make things I can eat, and I also figured it is about time the whole family started eating healthier. I did see some great recipes for stuffed peppers and chili on here that would be perfect for what I'm looking for....if you have any ideas, please let me know.....Thanks! xoxo...lIsa

There is also a great slow cooker cookbook you can look in to. It's called Fix It and Forget It Lightly. They have some great recipes and also the nutritional facts are listed . You can buy it used off of Amazon for like 3 bucks... well worth the investment!

I like to fix ham and bean soup in mine...The beans are high in protein....Toss in some dried beans of your choice, add plenty of water...I cook mine a few hours, then add some chopped up turkey ham and onions...Finish cooking until beans are done...
How about some fresh garden green beans, with red potatoes, vadalia onions...I put my beans with some water in a kettle on the stove and let them boil about 20 minutes, drain, rinse...Then place in crockpot, add water around them...Toss in potatoes, onions....I find boiling them first and draining them takes the bitter green taste away...You can add some lite butter to flavor, or turkey bacon, ham...
Good luck on your surgery...You are having it on my birthday...

Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only TRUE FRIENDS will leave footprints in your heart...And may that friendship have such a ONENESS that when one weeps the other will taste salt...Friends are like balloons ; once you let them go you can't get them back....So I'm going to tie you to my heart so I never lose you.
Thank you for the suggestions. The beans and ham sound yummy. I totally forgot about doing something like that...
I'm having my surgery on a couple other peoples birthday too. What is funny to me is, my ex hubby was so against me having this surgery. He said as long as him and I were together, I wouldn't have it done. We are now divorced and my surgery is on his birthday...lol I giggle every time I think about it......

Hope you don't mind if I chime in on this one too. I love making bean soups. I have made Butter Bean and a 15 Bean soup. I soak the beans over night in a pot and in the morning they are ready to go in the crock pot with a ham bone that had frozen from a left over meal, some garlic powder, onion powder, season salt, chopped onion and chopped celery if you like. I usually make mine on the stove though, in a BIG pot and freeze the leftover's. Quick and simple dinner.
Chili is a good one too. Use the ground turkey instead of beef. Again, normally I make a big batch on the stove so I have lots to freeze for other nights but it can be done in the crock pot as well.
Enjoy!
