3 days post-op

Does anyone have any suggestions for stage 1 diet options. I'm 3 days post-op and I can't tolerate the isopure protein drinks. I gag and it really hurts my belly. I've tried cutting it with water and light white grape juice. I'm sipping chicken broth and have been tolerating that well so that's where my protein is coming from. Next week I can have protein shakes so my protein intake will increase then. I'm just a little worried that I'm not getting enough protein. I know how important it is!

My Dr. had me drinking protein shakes the day after surgery. Are you sure you can't have them yet? Check with your doctor because I have not herd of not being about to have the protein shakes for a week. That's the simplist protein to digest. Try Unjury they sell samples.

I would check with your surgeon about the protein shakes - I wasn't allowed to have them until after 10 days.

buttaflyz,

I am 4 weeks post op and am having a very hard time with the protein. I have tried and have failed. I am afraid if i don't start getting my protein I am gonna end up in the hospital. I feel weak, totally drained, and at times like I am going to pass out. So don't end up like me. Please get your protein.

I am 2 months out and still struggling with getting enough protein in. The unflavored protein powder changes the consistency of the food and I gag on it. I have tried shakes and they are a little better, but still don't taste good. I sometimes eat protein bars and they aren't too bad. I keep trying different brands of protein to find one that is tolerable.
It took me a good 6 or 7 weeks before I was no longer weak and began to feel normal. I had the open RNY and it took a while to feel normal.

Unjury makes a chicken broth that is pretty good and you can drink it warmed up.  Unjury has a good quality protein.  I'm not sure what your diet allows, but I could have greek yogurt mixed up with some fruit (canned peaches, baby food) and that was really good and high protein.  I also froze some of the greek yogurt mixed with fruit and ate it kind of frozen - like a treat.

And you can get K20 protein drinks at the grocerystore - they only have 5 grams of protein but can count towards your liquids also and they taste  GOOD.

The Isopure gagged me too - Good luck -
