Flavored Coffees

This is how the factories make the flavored coffees you can buy on the grocery shelves.  Simply combine one small bottle of your favorite flavor extract to a large can of ground coffee.  If you don't want an entire can of one flavor, use a 1/3 of a bottle to 1/3 of a can, 1/4 bottle to small can, etc. Start with this ratio, then adjust to taste.  To combine, put the coffee in a large bowl.  Drizzle the extract over the coffee, and start stirring, turning, combining well.  This only takes 2 or 3 minutes.  Return the coffee to the container and store in the way you normally do.  No need to refrigerate.

Use real extracts, not artificial ones, for best taste results.  You'll find yourself shopping different stores for extracts!  My current favorite is black walnut.  You don't find black walnut flavored coffee in the store because it would be incredibly expensive.  But voila- you could make it yourself!  During the holidays I make 3 or 4 flavors like chocolate mint, chocolate hazelnut, rumbutter, white chocolate, almond, etc.  You could google "flavored coffees" to see what others like.  I've tried fruit flavors, but they ruin good coffee, IMHO- too tangy.  I have never tried using flavored SF syrups, but it may work fine.  This would make a good, personal gift idea.
One more thing:  label the container, in case you have your heart set on White Chocolate Walnut, but you accidently brew Slightly Off Whatsis.

This is a great idea!  I especially love the thought of making these for gifts!  Thanks for the post.

Just a quick question. Is this with decaff coffee or you just make it with real coffee?
Also doesn't coffeine cause ulcers? I'm still new to all this and that's what I thought about coffee and I have cut coffee right out but would love to hear that I can start drinking it again

I used this method for both regular coffee (before surgery) and now decaf.  Because of an ulcer history, I probably won't go back to reg. coffee, ever.  My doc's general instructions are "no caffeine for 6 months".
